cksalmon Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Or, can I just not figure out to find stuff here anymore? I was looking for an old—emphasis on old—exchange I had with someone here long ago. I don't seem to have a content history stretching beyond last year.

Google with site:mormondialogue.org the site search is unusable. 6

There are a few ways to find old stuff, but mostly eyeballing is required outside of what seeking suggested. You can only board search the last year of content. You can find older content by going to your profile and clicking on “see my content” and then going back through the pages. Added: if you don’t have recent posts, you may need to click on “posts” in the left hand menu and that should pull up all of your pages and not just the last year’s. It helps if you know the time period. Also some quite old threads were deleted in the past as there was a storage limit. Nemesis tried to save the best ones by having several of us go through and pick out the substantive ones, but of course some were missed. Most (All?) of these are in The Library. This is the last page of your posts. Hopefully you can work your way forward by page. With so few pages, eyeballing is probably easiest, but if you want help, give me an idea on what you are looking for and I may be able to find it. Your posts start in 2011. I went into your activity and clicked posts. Not sure why it’s different. Added: I thinks the difference is I have a mass of not a year old posts (200+ pages) , so I didn’t register it wasn’t showing the older ones (3000+ pages, lol) You don’t have many (6 pages) and I remember you posting quite a bit in the past (added: you have over 1000 posts on record according to your profile and only 6 pages of posts, so no more than 150 remain) , so my guess is quite a bit got deleted. https://www.mormondialogue.org/profile/3151-cksalmon/content/page/6/?type=forums_topic_post Edited June 7, 2024 by Calm

Ten...even fifteen years ago? Maybe we can reconstruct the conversation, even if the original is lost? What was it about? 1

I was looking for an old—emphasis on old—exchange I had with someone here long ago. I don't seem to have a content history stretching beyond last year. I too have had a need to find older posts (although they are more recent than what you are looking for), so I have used some of the techniques already mentioned in this thread. I also noticed, as Calm has pointed out, that your default post history seems to stop at 2011 for some reason (btw, thanks for the rabbit hole you sent me down, some of the topics where you posted in your history are of interest to me - I enjoyed the "Are The Gods Of the Hebrew Bible Real?" thread, for example). What I think is happening is that our post histories (or your post history) do not include what's in the "MD&D Archives" section of the board (aka "The Library"). So I tried something else. Instead of using the Google advanced search with only site:https://www.mormondialogue.org (as SeekingUnderstanding suggested above), I used site:https://www.mormondialogue.org/forum/ instead. With the "/forum/" on the end, it allowed me to see posts from you from 2008, but I can't get it to find any exact phrases. So I know the posts must still exist, it just seems that the search engines aren't working properly for that area. You could also try using the Wayback Machine, but without knowing the exact thread topic or approximate date, it would be like searching for a needle in a haystack. 2
