bluebell Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Threads about him don’t usually last long because he is a polarizing figure (even among ex Mormons). 2
Popular Post Dario_M Posted May 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 18, 2023 (edited) What do you guys find of John Dehlin? My personal opinion about him is that he is extreem anti LDS right now. While...in the past when he was younger he was extreme pro LDS. Extreme Ortodox (that's how you call it right? 🤷♂️) It makes no sense in my opinion. Maybe he got butthurt because he and his wife got excomunicated. I don't know. I don't judge him at all though. But he is so negative about the church in all his podcast episodes. (allthough sometimes he has a point) but he can't say anything positive or nice about our church anymore. And with his wife the same way. He should be at least a bit more honest, and show both sides of the storie. Insted of only choose the side of the person he interviews on his podcast who happends to have left the church ✝️ Edited May 18, 2023 by Dario_M 6

Tacenda Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 He always says his whole reason of doing his podcasts is to make sure people know what they're getting upfront, history and all, before joining and his whole motive for doing what he does. And I guess he's concerned about those that leave having a community and then a group called Thrive is born from it. I've not been able to jump in and enjoy those events yet.

Dario_M Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 There is one person who is even more hatefull about the LDS church Then John Dehlin in the anti Mormon scene. And that person is Exmo Lex. She was also a guest on Dehlins podcast once. She's so hatefull that i even kinda dislike her. I also have the feeling that she makes so much hate video's now because she get attention from it. And get a bunch of fews.

ETA: @Hamilton Porter why use the Midnight Mormons video, they are so over the top. Even Jim Bennett would agree. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjLtgpRIHjY Edited May 18, 2023 by Tacenda

Yes. And he also regularly and publicly acknowledges and candidly discusses his extramarital affair with one of his subordinates at OSF, Rosebud (including, according to Rosebud, one instance of nonconsensual sexual contact), articulates his position on the allegations that he purportedly doxxed Rosebud, frequently explains why he fired Rosebud after their affair became known (and thereafter gave himself a hefty raise), describes the particulars of the sexual harassment policy OSF put in place as a direct consequence to his behavior with Rosebud, explains the particulars of Rosebud's sexual harassment complaint against him, which she filed with the New Hampshire Human Rights Commission, justifies the periodic purges of employees at OSF, puts the "We Do Not Support John Dehlin" letter, signed by 19 women (most or all of whom have apparently worked directly with Dehlin), on a "required reading" list for his listeners and donors, features on his website clips of his sexual banter with Carah Burrell (who apparently goes by her professional moniker of "Nuancehoe"), responds to Kwaku's "The End of John Dehlin" video, justifies his and his co-commentator's explicitly racial remarks about Kwaku, responds to critiques of his apparent misuse of scientific research, explains his efforts to censor Gregory Smith, rationalizes the dissembling stuff he did relative to his stake president, explains his public misrepresentations of Richard L. Bushman, unravels the details about the exodus of employees from OSF, so that his listeners and donors "know what they're getting upfront, history and all," before listening to his podcasts, taking his advice, giving him money, and so on. Or . . . not. Thanks, -Smac 4

This is a good answer to the original question. But I guess we will just continue to look for controversial topics just for the sake of debate. Carry on then.

What do you think of this letter campaign spearheaded by Kate Kelly, founder of Ordain Women? Quote John Dehlin has long used Mormon and x-Mormon women to mask his bad behavior. He has used our talents, time, movements and reputation to bolster his brand and enrich himself. He takes advantage of vulnerable people in crisis, who are in legitimate need of help and community. When women come forward with critiques of his behavior or allegations of wrongdoing he retaliates by lashing out at them and attempting to publicly discredit them. We aren’t people who protect the Mormon Church, and we also don’t protect men who put the community at risk— whether they are Mormon or not. We have had enough. Many of us have worked with him in the past, and want to make clear that we no longer do and don’t encourage any other women to do so. It’s not safe. We refuse to be used as a mask for abuse. We think it’s a better use of everyone’s time and investment to support other folks building community and providing resources for exiting Mormonism. If you need therapy, you should seek out a professional who is actually licensed by the state to provide those services. If you need community (as we all do), you should seek out people who don’t regularly tear down women who disagree with them. It’s time we reconsider giving so much energy and support to someone who has the potential to do so much harm. John Dehlin often attempts to paint criticism as an “attack” and is an expert at making himself the victim. This is not an attack. It’s a clarification of values. Our values are to support and believe women. We invite you to do the same. ____________________________________ Kate Kelly, founder of Ordain Women Jenn Kamp, former co-host of Mormon Stories Podcast and Director of Operations for Open Stories Foundation (OSF) Joanna Smith, Ordain Women founding Board Member Amy Grubbs, former Director of Operations for Open Stories Foundation (OSF) Sharon Price, former Events Coordinator for Open Stories Foundation (OSF) Dr. Kristy Money Dr. Amber Choruby Whiteley Dr. Mica McGriggs Marisa McPeck-Stringham, MSW, CSW April Carlson, LCSW Aimee Evans Hickman, former editor-in-chief of Exponent II Emily Clyde Curtis Chelsi Barnard Archibald Tresa Brown Edmunds Hannah Wheelwright “Rosebud,” representing herself and the many women John Dehlin has intimidated into silence Jaynee Talbot Leanne Sawyer Raina Kimball Edited May 18, 2023 by Hamilton Porter
Hamilton Porter Posted May 18, 2023 Author Posted May 18, 2023 Another thing about John Dehlin, he doesn't know anything. He didn't know that Abraham came before Moses in the Bible. When he interviewed Bart Ehrman, he opened by saying that Bart was one of the few Bible scholars who believed Jesus existed. Bart was like, uhh..... And then Brent Metcalfe, whom Dehlin had on his show before, piled it on like everyone else. And Dehlin got upset because he supported Metcalfe and he didn't return the support. He's got a massive loyalty complex to couple his narcissism.
