I am 17, half-Mexican, and have autism, I’ve been working out for three months and eating healthy, and doing martial arts, and languages, I know three languages, my second is Spanish, but I’m working on Mandarin  very much and it’s my third and thinking of getting a job to save up money because I want to study in China for an education in mathematics and information technology, I see it as very important for my future and great sacrifice, should I do it? I am LDS and believe it a lot but I want to do this great sacrifice, I don’t care if people on this forum don’t like my sacrifice, it’s necessary for me to be very educated and get the career I want.

Sounds ambitious. May I ask why you are posting this here if you don’t care about what posters here think?  I am not saying you shouldn’t, I am wondering about your motivation and purpose so I know how to respond.

Everyone should do what they feel is right for them, especially if they are able to confirm it via the Holy Spirit. But just to echo what Calm wrote, why are you posting this if you don't care about what people on this forum think about it? If you don't need any advice, one would think one would not even bring up the question. For that reason it seems that you do actually want to get some thoughts, both pro and con, from the posters here. Is that the case?

If not, then fine, and I hope you are successful in all your righteous desires! :D

You do what you feel is best. It sounds like you are thinking that by going to China would have some sort of effect on your Church life, and that would be met with disapproval. Is that so? There are LDS churches in China.

The church meetinghouse locator doesn't show any in mainland China, except for the two branches in Macao. Taiwan does have quite a few wards. Hong Kong even has a temple, and probably wards as well, but the locator doesn't show them.

Locals and foreigners aren't allowed to meet together on mainland China. I know when Chinese students return home they get a letter from their Bishop explaining how the church works there, and who to contact.

Best to start with the local Bishop.

Hong Kong and Shangai both have significant lds member people (though I think in both there are foreignor wards and native wards that aren't allowed to attend the other congregation.

Since when knows China the church of latter day saints??? I have heard from my missionaris that China does not know this church and therfore not practise it. That is what my missionaris told me at least.

There could be Chinese people who lived outside of China and joined the LDS Church when they were living outside of China, who then moved back to China.

And there could be foreigners living in China who were already LDS.

So even if the missionaries are not allowed into China, there could be LDS Church members in China.

Yes members. But not churches.

There are Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints congregations in China. They might not meet in buildings with "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" on the front, but they are still there and hold church meetings.

You have a link of that?

Just in case Dario still can’t access it:

Quote

Many individuals from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) have joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while living in other countries. Chinese language congregations are now found in many countries.

Many of these Chinese members remain where they have been working or studying, but many also return to China and may not understand how they should comply with Chinese laws in relation to religious practice.

This website seeks to answer “Frequently Asked Questions” by PRC Church members outside China and by Church leaders who work around the world with those members. It gives needed basic information for PRC Chinese members returning to China, including whom to contact for information, attending Sunday Church meetings and encouragement to observe relevant Chinese laws. Also provided are links to online Church resources in simplified Chinese.

Over the years, the Church has built a strong relationship of trust with the People’s Republic of China by always respecting the laws and traditions of that country. The Church teaches its members in each country to obey, honor, and sustain the law, to be good parents and exemplary citizens, and to make positive contributions to society.

Recent Questions and Answers:

If I am thinking of returning to China can I still contact with other members?

I am concerned about family and friends. How do we encourage, support and help each other?…

There are tons more questions, but they only copy paste one at a time…one example…

Quote

What counsel can a Church leader give when a Chinese Church member is preparing to return to China, in circumstances where this member’s home in China is some distance from the Sunday Church meeting place?

Chinese Church members meet in organized Sunday meetings with local Chinese leaders in various locations throughout China. As is true in every country, some Church members live farther from meetings places and need to travel for Sunday meetings. Faith and sacrifice bring blessings. The love and concern of local Chinese Church leaders and fellow members are not limited by distance or geography.

This is interesting….I get the feeling they don’t feel comfortable saying too much officially.  Best to share in person…always is, but maybe this time for more than the usual reasons…

What can Chinese members expect when they return to China?

Sometimes seeing once is better than hearing a hundred times. Invite Chinese members preparing to return home to find out as much as they can from the CAU Director, current bishop/branch president, local Chinese members, and others. This way returning Chinese members can feel confident and know what to expect.
