Christian Mormon Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 i am looking for LDS people using virtual worlds. For me I am in Second life. There is a LDS community there at Adam ondi Aham . love to see you there. but i am also wonding if there are any LDS communities on other online virtual worlds. Let me know...thx
Amulek Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Does Norrath count? I'm pretty sure I've still got a High Elf Cleric hanging out there somewhere.
Kenngo1969 Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 I'm sorry, I am not involved in any virtual worlds and do not know anyone who is ... As much as, potentially, technology might have a downside that it gives people yet another reason to avoid engaging with the real world (as if we don't have enough of those! ) it does seem like a fascinating concept: "Virtual Zion," anyone? (See Moses 7:18, Doctrine and Covenants 38:27.)* *My personal belief is that "Big Zion" will not exist until quite a few members each have created their own personal "little Zions." It is the amalgamation of the latter that will create the former.

Let me know...thx Years ago I dabbled on Second Life, and found the LDS community there. When I happened to find it, someone had "bombed" the place with explicit gay porn. I don't know what the actual term is. Anyway, I banged around in SL for awhile, but found it largely boring. It was nice to be able is fly by flapping my arms, though. SL is the only virtual world I know about.

In a world where humans were beaten by AIs so stupid they thought the human body was an effective method of power generation and storage? That would be so depressing. 1

That would be so depressing. Which is one of the reasons why, although I kind of enjoyed The Matrix, it's technology mythos was full of crap. I mean, I've taken baths from time to time (showers mostly, for me), and the temperature differential between my body and the water eventually led to me freezing up as my body and the water attempted to come to an agreement as to a common temperature, lower than was compatible to a continuance of life.

It's very relaxing. Yes, but the last time I took a bath, tankless water heaters didn't yet exist. That's what we have in our house now, so it's feasible to shower all day in the warmth. But in The Matrix, human bodies were immersed in an exchange fluid which their bodies heated up in order to power the AI's civilization. Nonsense. 1

Stargazer Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 1 hour ago, Jim Dandy said: Yeah I seriously doubt that could really work too. Our bodies generally generate only about 100 degrees Fahrenheit and more bodies doesn't equal more heat. Only more bodies at that temperature. We do produce electricity too, though. I don't know if that could be added cumulatively. Not enough even to light an LED, I don't think.

"The average human, at rest, produces around 100 watts of power. Over periods of a few minutes, humans can comfortably sustain 300-400 watts; and in the case of very short bursts of energy, such as sprinting, some humans can output over 2,000 watts." Watts are not electricity. "The watt is the unit of power or radiant flux. It is used to quantify the rate of energy transfer." A steam engine's power is measured in watts, even if it is not associated with an electric generator. How much current can a human body produce, assuming that one could find the negative and positive terminals? That's why I say that I don't think we produce enough current to light an LED. If one were to put a human body in a transfer fluid (e.g. water), and measure the increase in temperature of the water, perhaps that temperature increase could be used to produce electricity. I'd be interested to see if that could be made to light an LED. 1
Calm Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 (edited) https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articles/2021/02/body-heat-could-directly-charge-wearable-devices/ “Currently, the technology can only produce about one volt of energy for every square centimetre of skin space, according to the researchers. This is less than what most existing batteries provide but could still be enough for small electronics such as a watch or a fitness tracker.” The issue would be more the amount of energy intake needed to construct the matrix, grow and place the humans and then sustain their life would be less or more than the cumulative volts. It would have to be a very efficient system in conducting energy with little loss, especially looking at how destructive (high energy expending) those machines were. Supposedly they also had some form of fusion though and perhaps that is what provided for the high energy output. If so though, why were they using the weak human sources given the high care cost? What else were machines doing in that world because caring and controlling humans? Anyone know? —— I thought it was just heat, but maybe it was also bioelectricity (I only have watched the movies one or two times and never for the science). Anyway, unlikely that would work either as the energy needed to grow the human farm would be way more than what brains produce. https://gizmodo.com/could-you-charge-an-iphone-with-the-electricity-in-your-1722569935 Edited September 14, 2022 by Calm
