JLHPROF Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 Curt Bench of Benchmark Books in Utah has passed away suddenly. For those who are familiar with Curt and his business he provided access to some of the best materials for Mormon studies around. He also had some minor fame due to involvement with Mark Hofmann back in the day. Sad day for his loyal customers like myself. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4329706263716148&id=207531452600337 1
Kenngo1969 Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 Indeed. That's a shame. I hope he rests in peace, and condolences to family and friends. 1
katherine the great Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 I don’t know who he is but glancing at the comments he sounds like a much loved person. RIP Curt Bench.

RIP Curt Bench. Including authors like Blake Ostler and Carol Lynn Pearson. Benchmark Books has provided a place for authors to hold discussions and signings and get their work exposure to the Mormon Studies community.

InCognitus Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 I was really sad to see this news. I love his bookstore, and in a way I feel like I got to know him somewhat recently (when I went to Utah in June) by listening to interviews with him on Gospel Tangents, regarding his involvement with Mark Hofmann. For anyone interested, he's featured in Gospel Tangents episodes 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, and 42 (all linked to the numbers here).
The Nehor Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 As someone who has frequented benches throughout my life I am sad to hear their inventor has died. Rest In Peace good sir. You will never be forgotten.
