Stargazer Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 (edited) Having just arrived back in the USA after an 8 month absence (and I'll only be here for 3 weeks), I am +8 hours out of sync in the timezone sense. So, I was up already at 3 AM on a Saturday. And General Conference starts today! Yay! So what cats will be let out of the bag today and tomorrow? The first cat (just a kitten, actually) is the renaming of the official choir of the Church. I am reminded of the Brigham Young quote that @Bernard Gui once used in his signature: "I will now say, not only to our delegate to Congress, but to the Elders who leave the body of the Church, that he thought that all the cats and kittens were let out of the bag when brother Pratt went back last fall, and published the Revelation concerning the plurality of wives: it was thought there was no other cat to let out. But allow me to tell you, Elders of Israel, and delegates to Congress, you may expect an eternity of cats, that have not yet escaped from the bag. strappinglad Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 (edited) Many years ago, the Datsun car company ( now known as Nissan ) shipped a cargo plane full of engine gears and other metal parts from its factory in Japan to the US for its dealers. During the flight the plane experienced severe turbulence and some of the crates broke open. Upon landing ,they opened the cargo doors and many of the parts fell out onto the runway. One close relative afflicted with type one diabetes lost her toes to the disease, and was embarrassed taking her shoes off in family gatherings. I told her not to worry, because we were not lack-toes intolerant 1

If you read through some of the posts by the critic chorus regarding the renewed emphasis on the Church's correct name, it is quite evident that this emphasis brings them to uproar. Of course, they moan and complain about practically everything, so it's a little hard to distinguish anguish and uproar over the name emphasis from the normal background of discontent. 1

I was just thinking about that actually. With the amount of critical chorus that has sprung up with various changes, like the name emphasis, I’m starting to resize why the Apostles are hestitant (I imagine, I suppose I don’t know) in giving us more. I even see people complaining about how one of the talks given in conference this last week was “inappropriate” (don’t remember the GA) when he talked about Malaria and how they were coughing “blood and mucus.” It’s amazing how much backlash the prophets get for little things like that, though I know there are a lot of members excited for it!! 1

I think we sometimes forget (me included) that even if it’s not predicated by “thus saith the Lord” or something like that doesn’t make it any less relevant. Perhaps there is a revelation that he received that DOES start that way, but it was a sacred experience and he wants to just pass the message along. I hope we can keep adding to the D&C more in the future, but I imagine if we added EVERY revelation ever received we’d be carrying little red wagons with all the sections 😂 Edited October 11, 2018 by SettingDogStar
