In other words ... Dehlin is disingenuous.

It's not just Dehlin.  One of the weirdest things I've noticed about exmormons is that they seem to recast Jesus into some sort of libertarian hippie who never judged anyone and just wanted everyone to be cool, man.

The first surprise I suspect most would have in the herafter is to find out that Jesus actually existed.  And the second surprise would be that he isn't some sort of amalgamation of Bill and Ted.

Much depends on how a person interprets a doctrine. I don't think that the church teaches what you suggest. I don't think that the lds church teaches any such thing. It does teach that no one is perfect and thus, repentence is important.. What would it mean not to be good enough? Perhaps this is a Utah cultural thing.

It is probably a definite Utah thing.  I have never lived outside Utah and from a very small town and stake where there were "groups" that decided who was in and out...A small town thing. But I felt so defeated even in the best of times..with prayer and doing my best..it was a defeating thing for me.

It is has been my observation that people like to read their own social/political views into Jesus’ teachings.  Whether you’re right or left, you can interpret Jesus’ views as your own.

BTW I read somewhere there will be a Bill and Ted 3.

I haven’t listened to a John Dehlin podcast in a long time.  I used to be one of his fans.  I’ve changed a bit in the last few years.

I think he is an honest and supportive moderate...

I don't find this position quoted by Hamba iirc very moderate myself (maybe my usage is wrong, but I think he meant something like "sits at the core" rather than "strikes at the core"):

I realize now that the teaching of the Atonement also strikes at the core of much religious-based harm....

This was one of the funniest and truest posts I’ve read on this board.

Most definitely.  I watched about 15-20 interviews and finally realized that almost everyone was saying pretty much the same things.  Later it became clear that he wanted to be the Gerald Tanner of the Internet age, and that’s where he lost me.
