No. The skies are just fine. I live between the two cities.  Great if you love overblown repressive progressivism.

The government steps in and "protects" children from low wage easy entry jobs. So many of our youth are home in the summer, up to no good, developing an entitlement mentality.  Latch key kids with burned out parents who have no time for them.  What does that do to a person's self esteem when they can't learn the connection between work and money?  Let my neighbor buy it for me.  Let my neighbor pay for my medical care.  Depressing. 

The cost of social programs is so high now, there is no division of labor anymore in a family.  Husbands and wives must work outside the home just to keep a roof over their heads.  And the social pressure to own large homes and new everything drives nearly everyone on a hamster wheel of debt.  Many see no way to retire when their bodies tell them it's time.  

Student loans driving up cost of education that take decades to repay with lower paying jobs than expected.   Govt. manipulation of mortgage market to give loans to people who can't repay them, home prices to the moon, bubble then crash in 2008.  Depression.

The opiate crisis, and prescribing anti-depressants that have a strong connection to suicide.  Chuck Schumer proposing legalizing recreational marijuana in all states.  A Psychology Today article from July 2, 2013 states: "Researchers have found that levels of dopamine are lower in long-term cannabis smokers and those who began using the drug at a younger age. Lower dopamine in a part of the brain called the striatum is linked to less ambition and motivation at a neuronal level...

The findings suggest why ‘stoners’ are stereotypically viewed as lacking motivation to work hard to pursue their dreams or to be ambitious. Do you think that pot makes people lazy? Have you had personal experience with the phenomenon of cannabis induced “amotivational syndrome” also-known-as being a slacker?" 

What will lower ambition do to our welfare state?

You have government welfare incentives to discourage marriage and incentivize out of wedlock births.  With no sustaining marriage covenant, men walk away leaving single Moms to pick up the pieces.  And with Dad out of the home or unknown, with no influence on many many children today, there appears to be a crisis in sexual identity and function (I know, very "not politically correct."  I probably shouldn't have this opinion, but I do.) I see evidence everywhere--  in much of the popular TV programming, in our state education system where they tried to force special bathrooms on kindergartners, etc., etc.  That seems like it could cause depression also.

I don't doubt Bro. Gui when he says "Great if you love overblown repressive progressivism."  The evidence is all around us, and little seems to have anything to do with the "Mormon religion."

On the positive side of things, according to this article, Utah rates 49 out of 51 (they include the District of Colombia in the study) for the "most stressed states".  In other words we are the 3rd least stressed state in the nation!  We seem to be the least stressed in terms of work stress and the second least stressed in terms of family stress...not bad considering that work and family are the two factors that take up most of our lives!

Obviously, there are other factors of stress not included in this study, but these are pretty big ones.

He said Utah's atmosphere has around 17 percent less oxygen than at sea level."
