Ok.  Time to go on record here.

I was some random mormon in Colorado, who had a bit of information.  The information was about another mormon in Utah, who had sexually abused a young girl.  I sent my information to the guy's bishop and stake president, and asked to know the outcome.  They excommunicated him, and let me know the outcome.

I figure there are probably far more stories like mine, than what we keep seeing in the news.  Stories like mine don't make the news.  "Church does right, protects flock" just isn't headline material.

Any speculations as to why Bishop has never received any church discipline?

I agree with LoudmouthMormon --- especially in decades following the 1980s.

To answer phaedrus ut's question, I think it's clear that Bishop enjoyed protection from the good ol' boy network of the time and wasn't disciplined for things anyone else would have been (or at least, wouldn't have been called to positions afterwards).

There is no good spin on this, and it is not the Church's finest hour --- in how it has handled it over the years, and in how it has handled the changing official statements and the settlement/defense of the lawsuit.

he's 90 or 91, they better act quick!

I really wonder about the first bishop in 87' that she told after her mission, I think it was 87'. I wish he had just met with the SP and then figured out a way to get down to the bottom of her story and find out if it was true or not. Instead of just writing her off like that.

I hope I would have done the same in his position. But sometimes people that know someone with Bishop's credentials or someone that has had his positions in the church, how easily it would be to want to protect him. I hope I would have been better than that.

Today's news coverage of the story contains some other damaging details

Quote

The suit claims, “Bishop met with Elder Robert E. Wells and disclosed to Elder Wells every indiscretion, sin, or other misdeed that had occurred up to that point in his life, including his sexual addiction and previous instances of sexual predation against women.”

Denson claims, Wells gave Bishop a blessing and following this disclosure to Wells, there is no indication that the Church took any action to investigate these possible crimes or investigate whether, under its own internal policies, Bishop would be subject to Church discipline. Any of these actions could have alerted Denson and other vulnerable women to Bishop’s dangerous propensities,” the suit claims.

Lawyers for Denson claim the church was aware of these allegations but yet Bishop still received a calling to head the MTC where he allegedly raped Denson in a small room in the basement of the building.

Well, it contains other damaging allegations. I don't know that it will be possible to determine whether it is true that “Bishop met with Elder Robert E. Wells and disclosed to Elder Wells every indiscretion, sin, or other misdeed that had occurred up to that point in his life, including his sexual addiction and previous instances of sexual predation against women.” Without Elder Wells' testimony, this is just hearsay.

or privileged information and even if they get Wells on the stand could he even tell what Bishop told him?

The Church will never let that happen. Not only out of self-preservation, but because the Church *really* holds confessional confidentiality to be important (I have had many hotline conversations about this) and does not want to give any precedent or pretext for eroding this. Completely separate from the legal defense wisdom of invoking it.

Finally, Mckenna mentions that Bishop didn't ask her to expose her breasts it was another victim. I kept thinking this since day one. And in the press conference the lawyer expressed the importance of listening to the audio not just reading the transcript. For those that keep saying they're not interested to listen.

I thought of you not being able to hear this Jeanne. :( During the press conference the video isn't aligned right at all, hopefully they'll post a transcript.Because of my short term memory problems, I'm not that great of repeating most of what I'm hearing.
