I saw a video of what looked like a nursing home filled with water up to the residents' waist. They were just sitting in it. Then  I just saw a video of a man diving in his living room trying to catch a fish swimming around, unreal!

Tacenda, thought you and others should know this group was evacuated from the city. I believe they got out on Saturday or Sunday. The image was posted to show the situation so they could get help. Another image was posted online Sunday night (iirc) showing them out of danger.

Sorry to intrude in a personal account thread when I have my own on the big picture stuff I can find out but wanted to relieve worries if possible.

Harvey's much worse further south from me, where it actually made landfall.

On those gator photos, I have seen them before on thr internet so they cannot be actual photos of gators right not in the town. I do not know if the sheriff who issued the gator in the streets warning got shnookerdoodled (sp?) or simply chose to use thst pic after learning if actual reports of gators in bring swept up into the streets.

There was a concern that the gator refuge would be flooded and they would be able to swim out but last I heard they relocated the gators.

There were also fake reports of sharks escaping from the Houston Aquarium complete with fake photos. While the building is flooding there are no shark escapes. The main indication that the photo was faked was that the water was way too clear. Even if sharks did escape they would not function well in water with such low salinity.

Good to know! I read on the board, whether from Darren or someone else that there are so many nursing homes, it would have been impossible to get them all out and could have been a disaster with that many on the road. I think I read 6000 nursing homes? That can't be right, can it? Or I'm tired and read wrong.

Also, I just read about a family in a van that all died except the driver, he got out, but the rest drown. This is so insane, that this can happen. I know that Texans are out full force though to get out as many as possible.

6000 must have been a typo or misreading.  Maybe 6000 residents?

Here is a site listing 162 in the area...perhaps they meant 600 in the area affected by the storm, which would be much greater than Houston and its suburbs or just 60 in potentially dangerous areas.

I'm glad you're safe, and grateful my wife, our daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter are safe. The photo attached was taken about an hour before they evacuated.

If you pick up at Bush, my son lives in Humble.  You might be close

But I think we have discussed this before and you are not?

I live in neighboring Spring. It's next door to Humble but for me to get there I jave to travel south, then east. To get to your brother's house, wherever exactly that is, I would likely have to drive back up north.

In the temple prayer request thread that he is OK. I am glad to hear it.

I did find an actual film of a lady who recorded at least two gstors in he back yard. I assume that the sherrif did get reports and picked the quickest picture get could access to tweet out a caution to all of Houston.

And, by all mean, post here. I made this thread before I saw yours already posted.

Aug 29 (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Harvey has set a rainfall record for tropical cyclones in the state of Texas, with 49.32 inches (125.3 cm) of rain observed at a location southeast of Houston, the National Weather Service said on Tuesday.

Hopefully this'll be the last day of significant rain. Perhaps tomorrow. Dams are at a critical point too.

President Donald Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania, has officially touched down in Texas ahead of an afternoon of meetings with local officials and tours of numerous hurricane disaster areas. He will stop in Corpus Christi and Austin, avoiding the hardest hit areas of Houston where rescue efforts are ongoing.

Good call. I really hope President Trump stays out of Houston until things are back to running again. The security detail alone would greatly hamper relief efforts. I hope Trump and Abbot keep coordinating resources. So far rescue efforts have done an excellent job.

HOUSTON —

Members of the Louisiana Cajun Navy, a group of Louisianians helping Tropical Storm Harvey victims in Texas, were shot at Monday by apparent looters, the group said on Facebook.

The Cajun Navy has become widely known across the state for its response efforts during natural disasters and is made up of different groups. The group of first responders previously provided assistance to Louisianians during last year's historic August floods.

My son in law kayaked over to their house this afternoon. 4 feet of water in the house. Heartbreaking, but what matters is that they all got out safely.

Just got back from a very quick trip to Houston. I left early Saturday morning, stopped for the night in Mississippi, and arrived Sunday afternoon. I flew home last night. The devastation is really sobering, but the response of the people has been inspiring. Monday morning, there were 8 people from their ward working in the house when we got there. A while later, a couple from the local Catholic diocese came by to ask if we needed manpower or supplies, and then 15 minutes later, a woman from another church came to ask the same question. Their cul-de-sac was crowded with vehicles and people who were helping. We gave them our second car because theirs was a total loss, and they netted $400 from the insurance. They are doing well and staying with ward members. My daughter and granddaughter will be coming here Thursday. Once my daughter is off crutches and on a walking boot, she will be able to go back to Houston, but it may be more than a month before they can get back into their home.

Thank you all for the support and prayers. It means so much to me and my family. I took this photo yesterday before I left. Every yard is full of destroyed belongings, drywall, and flooring.

This is not an advertisement for anything, just an update. Thank you to all our friends and family who helped my daughter and her family. We reached our goal for the fundraiser, and reconstruction is under way. Four of my son-in-law's brothers and a friend spent the weekend replacing wiring, hanging drywall, and putting in flooring. They discovered a rotten stud in the laundry room, which was caused by the original builders hanging the cabinets and driving a screw into a pipe. So, they replaced the stud and a section of pipe. Anyway, thank you again for your kindness and support. They were able to pay off the balance on my car, so it's now theirs. They still have to purchase some wood trim, doors, flooring, kitchen cabinets, and appliances, but with what they received from FEMA and the donations, they should have enough to pay for everything. My son-in-law will be coming here in 2 weeks to take my daughter and granddaughter home. I can't tell you how grateful I am to everyone who has supported our family in this stressful time.

Just thought I'd post a final update on my daughter's situation. The floors and walls are in, and everything is painted. The kitchen and laundry room cabinets have been installed, but they still have to put the doors and drawers in, as they wanted to wait until the countertop was installed, which happened yesterday. My daughter is able to walk and drive a car again, so it's much easier for her to care for the baby.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way. Because of the generosity of friends and family and a lot of labor from ward members and my son-in-law's brothers, they have been able to get everything done without having to borrow a lot of money. They almost feel guilty because their neighbors are not as far along as they are because they didn't have as much help, but my son-in-law has been helping the neighbors as he can.

The only bad news concerns the friends they have who housed them after the flood (the family where the mother had a baby the day before the flood). Their oldest, who is 4, has been diagnosed with leukemia. Apparently, with the type he has, there's a better percentage of remission, but it is obviously a very difficult time. He started chemotherapy this week. So, I'm sure prayers would be appreciated.

Thank you again for everything. I know I can be a pain in the neck, but I am glad I have good friends I can count on.
