He gave it again to the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:21), and he gave it also to the Pharisees (Luke 11:41). It was why Judas rebuked Mary, and ultimately betrayed Christ. The commandment to not lay up resources - food, goods, money, substance - for ourselves also was given to his disciples (3 Nephi 13:29, Matthew 6:20). Inasmuch as we style ourselves to be disciples of Christ, they are therefore our commandments as well. Other than those, what are your concerns? Have you done all these things?

Calm Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 How are you able to post here if you have sold all your goods and given to the poor?

JLHPROF Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Welcome back Etzy...I see your out of context, unauthorized call to repentance hasn't changed since last time - how is life with no money going for you?

He that keepeth his commandments receiveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things. Interesting. Where does the opposite idea, that no man is or can be perfect, that none have nor can have a fulness of light in this life, which we hear preached all the time, come from? Until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things. This is talking about becoming Gods ourselves. Not something we will ever reach in this life. Line upon line precept upon precept, here a little and there a little until we become perfect. The teachings that no man is perfect come from the Bible. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” “If any man supposes that he knows anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know.” We all fall short of the glory of Christ. We all see through a glass darkly. It is ours to submit to the light, acknowledge our weakness, and seek to improve. The goal is perfection, but the road is long. It is ours to edify our brothers in Christ through his spirit, not tear them down by his letter. What is your purpose here? We all know the letter. Are you here to edify us in the letter, or to belittle and deride us by the letter. Do you come in the spirit of Christ or in the spirit of contention (3 Nephi 11:29)? Edited January 15, 2017 by pogi
Lemuel Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 What is the context in which the sermon on the mount doesn't apply?
etz Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 It's only a call to repentance if you do not keep the commandments of God, JLHPROF. After all, if you do keep the commandments, you would rejoice to hear what I say. 1 Nephi 16:3 And now my brethren, if ye were righteous and were willing to hearken to the truth, and give heed unto it, that ye might walk uprightly before God, then ye would not murmur because of the truth, and say: Thou speakest hard things against us.

Lemuel Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Why is any of this offensive? The only person who would find this offensive is someone who sees themselves as righteous, but doesn't do the Sermon on the Mount stuff.

Nobody here is disagreeing with the necessity of keeping the commandments. Not sure what your argument is. However there is much in your attempted call to repentance that can easily be disagreed with.

Part of the process of perfection is teaching the law and commandments as well, while waiting for the Lord to bring about means by which one may fulfill the whole law. If one waits for the perfect teacher before he will acknowledge and keep the commandments of God, one will not like him when he appears with all the hosts of heaven in the glory of his Father, for his appearance will not be pleasing to the disobedient. As it stands, if you acknowledge the commandments come from the Lord, then be up and doing and teaching. Edited January 15, 2017 by etz

Lemuel Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 He said it so much nicer than you etz. Just gotta work on your delivery.
etz Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 Every member of the church of God is authorized - nay, commanded - to persuade all men to repentance (2 Nephi 26:27). And the purpose of priests - you know, the priesthood - is to teach the commandments of God unto the children of men (Alma 13:1-9).
