Leading the Church, generally and locally

I have had the experience of being warned about stuff that is coming up in life that otherwise I wouldn't know about , as in beware of ...... so I know to be warned about it. I have also had the experience of figuring stuff out to know what to do next and getting what I think is revelation on it but I think if I hadn't asked what would have happened? In the Church locally and generally do you think God tells leaders hey, you need to know about this or that and this is what you need to do about it or does he let us figure out the problem and then come to him for guidance? When I think of a leader I think of someone who is probably a mix of both, they have foresight but respond to petitions from their co workers or servants. So, what I am asking is how does God lead the Church if we do the thinking and problem spotting, does he just sit around waiting for prayers to happen? How involved is he in the Church? For that matter, if we broaden it out, is he involved in the direction of other churches?

IME, He absolutely tells His leaders to do something that they have/would otherwise not have done, in those instances where it would mess up His plan if the leaders messed it up.   But usually He doesn't, probably because it is not crucial for a specific person or the Plan as a whole.   Most of the time IME, He expects us to work it out and then ask for confirmation (which is why councils are supposed to operate on unanimity, meaning that every comes to believe that God wants a single position or approach or one resolution).

Besides Declaration 2 (a revelation supposedly given to the LDS President to guide the church
in ordaining others to the priesthood), are there other examples of 'revelation' that the LDS
President has to bring to some council for a vote?

Thanks,
Jim

I believe that any good idea is one of God's ideas so when I get one I give him the credit.

And sometimes he even helps to assure me that I got it from him.

So, there you go.

Now give me a word, any word, and I will show you how the root of that word is Greek!

I think it is both. And since He works through our fellow beings, by "small means" and various other "voices" (D&C 43:21), I think sometimes the two methods can be the same thing!

Elder Ballard's talk, "Counseling with our Councils" may be helpful

https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1994/04/counseling-with-our-councils?lang=eng

Here’s another good talk about that: https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2016/04/the-price-of-priesthood-power?lang=eng

“In these latter days, we know there will be earthquakes in diverse places.16 Perhaps one of those diverse places will be in our own homes, where emotional, financial, or spiritual “earthquakes” may occur. Priesthood power can calm the seas and heal fractures in the earth. Priesthood power can also calm the minds and heal fractures in the hearts of those we love.”

I don’t believe He is involved in the direction of other Churches in the same way as with the LDS. With the LDS, there is a specific chain of command (D&C 1;30). Collectively, it is through the priesthood order; individually it is through the Holy Ghost and priesthood power of the individual. I believe other churches (and their members) generally seek to do His will but operate only by the power of the Light of Christ.

Does God reveal solutions to every problem that comes to our church leaders?  Or does He allow them to use their own judgment even though they may turn out to be wrong?  I've heard both Bishops and Stake Presidents admit they felt they made mistakes.  Should we expect that leaders should get everything right the first time?
