Holy cow calmoriah, you have to post something else!   When I see you upstairs all I will be able to think is about that poor emotionally damaged sister .. dying birds, disappearing dogs, ugly two week old chicks …

Pet Sematary

There is a reason why I avoid horror films and books.  My imagination is more than enough.

Is that you in the picture?  Who is the young Father?

It’s been many moons but once upon I time I bought  the book:

http://www.amazon.com/What-Catholics-Really-Believe-Misconceptions/dp/0898705533/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429202023&sr=8-1&keywords=what+do+catholics+believe

As well as the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  I did read through them both once.  I should pick them up again.

In picking out one of your billions of interests, today I choose The Rockefeller’s.  I spent three summers running three day canoe trips, one day of which passed through Moose National Park (i.e. Rockefellers)  All the money and politics aside … he was an outdoors man.

seriously honestly;

From your profile:

"live in beautiful Northern Idaho, married Sept of 2008 to the love of my life and have bouncy baby boy and two Boston Terriers."

What a beautiful place to live and raise a family.

I also know several “walker bait’s” hehe

I am just a simple country boy.

yea, right: "Many times I have been blessed with what I needed, when I needed it when there was no discernible way before hand.  We raised 11 children, with mom staying home, and me with nothing but a high school education until I was 53 yrs old."

Please tell us more!

I don't know about the above should I associate you with this one in my mind (a favorite)

yea, that one's better

The old father is me, the "young father" is my son, not yet a priest, although he is a cleric, having now received what is called "first minor orders".

Didn't Nelson R. make it to V.P.? Maybe with Ford? Yeah, I think he did. Anyway, I am a Nixonian at heart with a soft spot for the elder Kennedys...politically speaking. I couldn't lose in the 1960 election!

Sorry about my ignorance with the whole priesthood thing ... handsome young man!  And dad's not too shabby either.  That's a nice picture and I assume dad's pretty proud (in a good way) about his son.

Not sure about the politics, just admired all the lands they owned in that incredible area of our nation.

hey If I were dieing  and asked you for last rights, not being Catholic could you give them to me?

I am the tingle that runs down your spine, the spice on your rice, the thrill of victory, the epiphany in your dreams, and the paragon of men.

Wherever I walk past everyone turns and asks: "Who is that guy?"

Hey Nehor, I've always viewed you as like this man: B.J. Penn  based on old rumors of your situation being similar to Penn's.  Neither having to be where they are other than a dedicated love for what they are doing.

Robert you never did tell me what you did for work?

A little bit of everything in my younger years (farm work, construction, water-well drilling, assembly line, repairman, day labor, etc.), but currently I write, research, and edit for a living.  Did something similar back in the 1980s when I was associated with the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS).

Yeah Dad is proud of all his kids...but a priest would be special. Last Rites, or Extreme Unction, is a Sacrament that can only be administered by a priest. But believing in its establishment by God as a sacramental means of grace...if you wanted Last Rites, and a priest was unavailable, you would receive the grace of the Sacrament.

I am always on the lookout for good renditions of that favorite song. Have you ever tried Sandy Denny? I hope she made it...through Heaven's Door. She left us when she was still young.

Dylan's original is still the best though...of course...

I am flattered but I am no MMA fighter. I like to fight a bit and spar sometimes on the weekends but I don't have the reflexes to do it more then casually. I have never done it professionally. No idea what rumors those are.

I am madly in love with my wife. She isn't a member but she.is.better than many I've met and dated.

I believe me daughter is the most beautiful little girl in the world.

I gained my testimony while I was attending byu and would do anything I could to share the gospel with others.

What does "first minor orders" mean, Rory?

Hi Robert. Thanks for your interest. I am learning a lot myself mainly because our youngest continues on his journey. I am sure there is a lot I don't know about but I'll try to give an overview.

The candidate for Holy Orders passes through a series of rites administered by the bishop each year of his life at the seminary which increasingly obligate him to a life of sanctity and oblation.

"Thus it is that at each step toward the priesthood, the Pontifical* demands a greater measure of virtue, of love, and of sacrifice."

(The Spiritual Life, p. 195, Fr. Adolphe Tanqueray, TAN Publishers, 2000)

*The "Pontifical" is a book containing all the rites and ceremonies to be performed by the bishops.

In addition to the obligations attached to the ordinands as they move closer and closer to becoming priests, as clerics they become the bearers of privileges ordinarily reserved from laymen. Lector, which is one of the offices of First Minor Orders grants the ordinand the honor to recite (Low Mass) or chant (Sung Mass) the epistle at Holy Mass. Fr. Tanqueray gives a brief explanation of each of the grades which usually takes seven years to complete before the full priesthood is given.

1) Tonsure

2) Porter and Lector (First Minor Orders)

3) Acolyte and Exorcist (Second Minor Orders)

4) Subdeacon

5) Deacon

6) Priest

Our boy left for the seminary in the Fall of 2010 and had a year of humanities studies...a kind of preparation to begin priestly formation. He received the cassock in Feb. 2012, which is not a minor order, but is a very visible and obvious, if silent way, of professing one's intentions to the world. That was the occasion of the avatar photo. In 2013 he was tonsured. I am sorry we missed that event. This makes the candidate a cleric. In 2014, he received the office of Porter and Lector. This allows the candidate to recite/chant the epistle at Holy Mass. His spiritual directors thought it advisable for him to take a year away from studies and he has been serving at a priory and teaching at their school in the Phillippines this year. If he continues next year, he would receive Second Minor Orders in 2016, and the sub-diaconate in the early spring of 2017, before ordination as deacon in the late spring or early summer of 2017. Deacons preach sermons for the year before ordination which would be presumably in 2018. One can leave the community at any time, but only the Pope has the authority to laicize the candidate after he has received one of the Major Orders, the sub-diaconate.

Our son-in-law received First Minor Orders. Obviously, he is neither a priest nor cleric now.  Heh. Of course, I hope our son has a priestly vocation, but God's will be done.

when I hear little girl, all I can think of is my wonderful granddaughters.  Oh how I love them.  How old is your daughter?

I'm turning into a vampire. I see really well at night, and when I get out of bed before the sun does I can navigate my house, put on my contacts, and get ready without turning on the lights. I also am allergic to sunlight in higher altitudes....not as cool since I'm planning to live in UT for a long while to come. I have to wear 90 spf sunblock to stay out in the sunlight for any significant amount of time. People take little empathy to this because A) I have a permanent perfect tan and b) it's aqcuired and I had several years of sunblock-free days where I frolicked and turned more brown. I still haven't acquired a taste for blood, but I'm sure that's coming.

I'm a vegetarian and have been for 13 years.

I hate the color pink.

I feel a good number already know this but: I'm working on my master's degree and will graduate in August. Because of this I'm usually in some state of tired right now in my life.

I have a semi-secret love in my life. It's not all that secret, but only those closest to me know about him (or any details about our relationship). And my several parents aren't on the list.

I've been a lifelong member and am an 8th generation mormon....but no one ever guesses that... ever. In my real day-to-day I'm a little crass, have a broken filter to my thoughts, am all shades of brown from head to toe, and enjoy pushing boundaries and making people squirm a little. It takes a whole lot to rattle my sense of propriety. When I was in high school people assumed that I was either buddhist or agnostic...something to that end. Now people know I'm mormon (the details of my life give it away), but no matter what I do in the church I just don't come off as a "normal" mormon to many. Still, I came to my own faith around 14-ish and have just become more and more cemented in my faith. My favorite things to learn about currently, gospel wise, is the temple.

I actually really like UT. I never thought I would...but it's grown on me quite a bit.

I'm starting my very first in ground garden and am super excited about it. When I'm especially tired, I work the earth and relax by getting my hands dirty.

You seem willing to be eclectic. Let me direct you to my favorite song of hers, with Fairport Convention, An English band that mixed traditional folk music with a little electricity. Tam Lin is a Scottish ballad and fairy tale that has been told and sung in many ways, but Sandy telling it, with the band cooking behind her...I love it...anyway...here it is:

BlueDreams, get yourself a parasol for walking about (inexpensive at Asian import stores...though most have some sort of pink on them) and a beach umbrella for sticking in the ground so you can always be working in the shade in the garden.  Ikea had some really good, inexpensive all white beach ones a few years ago.  don't know if they still carry them.
