Jeanne Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Given the seriousness about any sins related to creation of life and ending life, if this is the reason for homosexuality being such a big sin, would it be just as big of sin for a straight couple to decide to not have children as a gay couple to be together?? Interesting question. I wonder what the difference really is to God other than the social attitudes towards homosexuality if that is the core reason against homosexuality. This is one of the most interesting questions ever...
JLHPROF Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 What I keep hearing is that SSA is a condition that people are born with and which will always be with them through no fault of their own. If that's true, it is more like a congenital disorder than like alcoholism or drug addiction. My application of Alma 40:23 ("not a hair of their heads") stands. That may be true. But being born with a violent temper (my usual example) is a condition that we are born with that should be overcome. I don't believe that a temper will necessarily disappear in the resurrection either, that it will need to be worked on.
pogi Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) That may be true. But being born with a violent temper (my usual example) is a condition that we are born with that should be overcome. I don't believe that a temper will necessarily disappear in the resurrection either, that it will need to be worked on. The question is, how much of our behavior is related to our true spirit selves and how much is related to our physical conditions? There are obvious cases of congenital defects such as fetal alcohol syndrome, autism, etc. which can greatly affect our temperament. When those defects are corrected in the resurrection, will we still have the same temperament? I think not. If, and that is a big "if", homosexuality is linked with a congenital abnormality, then I we would expect the symptoms to vanish in the resurrection. Edited February 24, 2015 by pogi 1

JLHPROF Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 What if...procreation in the eternities only requires love? What a novel idea, A novel idea - kind of reminds me of the kid who when asked where babies come from responded: "well the Mommy and Daddy kiss for a really long time and then you get a baby".Sweet, but missing something.
pogi Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 What if...procreation in the eternities only requires love? What a novel idea, Then you better watch out because I gotta whole lotta love and you don't want to be getting no baby bump from me! Everywhere I go, I'm gonna have a bunch of babies be calling me dada. 1
teddyaware Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) What if...procreation in the eternities only requires love? What a novel idea, Before I had "the birds and the bees" explained to me. that's how I thought children were brought into the world. You know ... "Well, to answer your question little Teddy, when a man and woman really love each other and then get married, mommies get pregnant and have babies because there's just soooo much LOVE." After I had the birds and bees explained to me, I couldn't talk to my mom and dad for a week because I was so disgusted and horrifies at the mental image of the two of them "doing the nasty." But maybe in heaven it's as I envisioned it as a child -- mommies and daddies in heaven have so many babies because they really really, really love each other so very, very much. Storm Rider Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I tend to find these types of conversations tedious because I tend to think we don't know what we are talking about and we are missing the entire focus the Gospel. I just don't think it matters one bee's tinker's dang how spirit children are brought into existence; what is evident is they are. When I attempt to comprehend what it means for us to become one with the Father I get overwhelmed at the caliber of that union and what it means or may mean. I cannot begin to imagine the holiness, the complete love, the wonder of such a thing. That is what is offered to each child of God through the atonement of Jesus Christ. It is an overwhelming thought and humbles me that such a gift is offered to me.

Oh that brings back traumatic memories...I remember in 1st or 2nd grade a classmate telling me how babies are made (sort of) and being a good little Mormon boy saying "No, Heavenly Father puts the babies in Mommy's tummy". I got some teasing for that...
