sdc999 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Just so I may have a better understanding of math, the article states just over 100 missions with an average of 250 per. That's 25000 missionaries. Where are the other 50K+ serving. Are they not under a mission president?

They want missions to have no more than 200 as it gets too bulky and not enough attention given, thus there are over 100 of the 415 whose numbers they are hoping to adjust in the future. Defender identifies nuances or considerations that may not be readily apparent or understood at first glance. Defender is then accused of clouding the issue with unmeasurables. 1

I asked my youth Sunday School class if that was true and the girls resoundingly felt that this was the case. That will continue to keep the numbers higher if it holds true. The expectation not coming from leaders but from the young women themselves to each other. Edited January 13, 2015 by mtomm

churchistrue Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I think the math in my post about the surge was off. The "surge" would technically be the increase in numbers when new, younger missionaries are overlapping the numbers of regular missionaries who were already serving. Once the overlap is gone, then all the missionaries are "new" missionaries who were called after the age change and the bump caused by this overlap would be over. In other words, if there were 50,000 missionaries serving in 10/12 when the change was announced, and only one person chose to leave early in that month (10/12) and the rest of the missionaries (men and women) decided to serve their missions at 19 and 21 as usual, then that would be a surge of "1". But by 10/14, every missionary serving in 10/12 would be home, and that one missionary would still be serving but he would have been out there anyway by then. So by 10/14, the increase from "overlap" would be over, but you would see an increase in real numbers from more elders choosing to go, and way more sisters choosing to go. Like my relative here. I'm pretty sure it's hot chocolate...I'd guess the overlap is still going on to some extent. There were kids in college Oct 2012 that had planned their whole life to turn 19 their first year in college and go out after that. I'm guessing the full effect of the overlap won't be completely washed through until this summer maybe the end of the year. I also believe the trend for girls to go on missions will increase more and more, so even though numbers may drop a little more, they will continue to be strong and go up faster than the growth rate of active members.

One need this mission needs is for more sister missionaries. There are 46 units here and missionaries in most if not all of them but a lot of them have 6 missionaries so they are working on lowering it to a set of elders and sisters in each of the wards. They want to keep sisters out of outlining areas ( I live in Canada) They aren't baptizing as many as expected so they don't want to send more missionaries here if the results aren't super great but we need sisters like really badly!!! So, if anyone knows anyone this mission is hiring!
Scott Lloyd Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Inasmuch as my thread from January has been revived, I will take this opportunity to give a clock reading on Mike Reed's prediction (Cinepro insists it's not a prediction but a "suspcion," whatever that means) that the number of missionaries will drop "within the next two or three years." The amount of the drop is undetermined, as Mike would not be more precise, so I'm assuming he thinks it will fall back down to the pre-surge level, what it was in 2012. So, the time remaining in the two years after his "suspicion" was expressed is 1 year, 9 months, 3 weeks, 3 days, 3 hours, 5 minutes 36 seconds and counting down. Edited March 16, 2015 by Scott Lloyd
