Thought Experiment - What If Elder Holland Released His New Book Under A Different Name?

Elder Holland recently released a new book titled "To My Friends." What if the book was released under the name of a different author, say Steven E. Snow? Would the book sell as many copies or receive the same reviews?

What is the implication? That Apostles get better sales and reviews because they are Apostles? I mean what if their books of the Bible written by Judas after he betrayed Christ...lot of if's. :)

Is it a surprise that a more well known author would sell more books than a more obscure author given that both of their books have the same title?

My opinion, no, it would be in the cheapo section of DB store.

We would buy the book because we respect and trust the author. Authors write books because there are readers who want to read what they have to say. It would be a very confusing world if I could not search for a particular author because they use a different name each time they publish.

not to belittle Elder Holland by any stretch but I saw the review on Deseretbook's website and the lady said it was just a collection of his talks that are online

As partial as I am to Elder Holland, I buy books based on whether I have a need they will fulfill and whether they will benefit me, largely irrespective of who wrote them.

I don't think you're very unique in that respect.  I don't know many people who know a book won't fulfill any of their needs or benefit them in anyway but who buy it anyway because of who wrote it.  :)

It definitely wouldn't sell as many copies. I don't know about reviews, though.
