VideoGameJunkie Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 It seems there are soooooo many different religions and faiths throughout the world. Billions of people are believing in different Gods and following different scripture or in different sects. How did we get so lucky to be in the one true church and how is it that only 15 million people in a 7 billion population world are members of the one true church that was formed in the 1800s after thousands of years of religious history? Count your blessings on how lucky we are in the world because there's a lot of different beliefs out there.
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 I wonder how my life would be if I was born in let's say India into Hinduism. Life could be so much different.

VideoGameJunkie Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 sunstoned, why would they think they're the right one true religion if they haven't felt the spirit confirm it like members of our church have?
strappinglad Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) drop... meet bucket. Even if we add up every Christian sect they don't make up 25% of the world's population. We are compared to the leaven in a loaf of bread. What percentage of a baked loaf is the yeast? I will answer my own question. Yeast is about .25% of the ingredients of a loaf by volume. The LDS Church is about .21% of the Earth by population. Edited September 29, 2014 by strappinglad
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 4.5 million active members out of 15 million out of 7 billion people in the world shows how lucky we really are when you look at the numbers.
Rivers Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Supposedly we get to be members of the church because we were so valiant in the pre-earth life.
The Nehor Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Supposedly we get to be members of the church because we were so valiant in the pre-earth life. Pity how many people have screwed the pooch since.
rpn Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 There is an innate spirit in us that seeks our Heavenly Father. Depending on where we are born, the local way of describing Him is different, but we all seek Him, whatever we locally call Him. Not different Gods, our Heavenly Father, who is in our spiritual DNA. The reason there are lots of incarnations and belief systems is that in any family, some do not listen and obey but seek to do as they think they have better understood.
Boanerges Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 sunstoned, why would they think they're the right one true religion if they haven't felt the spirit confirm it like members of our church have? What makes you think they haven't had the Spirit confirm it? Many of us were either part of other churches before converting or have visited other churches - we do not have a monopoly on the Spirit (or truth for that matter). 1

Tsuzuki Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Why Are There So Many Different Religions And Faiths In The World?Because there are at least that many ways of looking at the universe. Instead of marveling at how lucky you are for being in the "one true church", you should be studying the religions of the world for what they have to teach. The reason why there are so many religions in the world is so that you can learn from them. "It was the occupation of Jesus Christ and his Apostles to propagate the Gospel of salvation and the principles of eternal life to the world, and it is our duty and calling, as ministers of the same salvation and Gospel, to gather every item of truth and reject every error. Whether a truth be found with professed infidels, or with the Universalists, or the Church of Rome, or the Methodists, the Church of England, the Presbyterians, the Baptists, the Quakers, the Shakers, or any other of the various and numerous different sects and parties, all of whom have more or less truth, it is the business of the Elders of this Church (Jesus, their elder brother, being at their head,) to gather up all the truths in the world pertaining to life and salvation, to the Gospel we preach, to mechanism of every kind, to the sciences, and to philosophy, wherever it may be found in every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, and bring it to Zion. The people upon this earth have a great many errors, and they have also a great many truths. This statement is not only true of the nations termed civilized-those who profess to worship the true God, but is equally applicable to pagans of all countries, for in their religious rights and ceremonies may be found a great many truths which we will also gather home to Zion. All truth is for the salvation of the children of men--for their benefit and learning--for their furtherance in the principles of divine knowledge; and divine knowledge is any matter of fact--truth; and all truth pertains to divinity." - Brigham Young, "Intelligence, Etc." As the time of return of Jesus draws closer we will see amazing things.
JLHPROF Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Supposedly we get to be members of the church because we were so valiant in the pre-earth life. And that's why Blacks can't hold the priesthood, they simply were not as valiant. Oh, wait, wasn't there some sort of essay or something written about that recently? The whole Blacks not being valiant disavowal aside, anyone can see that our actions in the Pre-existence still determine much of our situation in this one.We are not all born equal, with equal access to the gospel. We were not all noble and great ones in the pre-earth life. And just as we will be classified moving from our 2nd estate to our 3rd estate, we were classified moving from our 1st to our 2nd.It is no more 2 choices - "fell with Lucifer/came to earth" in this life than it is purely "heaven/hell" in the next one.
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 I think those that die in infancy were the most valiant in the pre existence and only needed to come to earth for a short period just to gain a body and back to heaven those worthy babies go.
Svawd Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I think those that die in infancy were the most valiant in the pre existence and only needed to come to earth for a short period just to gain a body and back to heaven those worthy babies go.To me it's making the mentally challenged and those that can't take care of themselves a punishment. Because they weren't quite righteous enough to gain their body and go right back home.

Count your blessings on how lucky we are in the world because there's a lot of different beliefs out there. Two reasons. In general, 1- people enjoy making up religious beliefs, and 2- people are prone to believe made up religions. Just look around at the various religions that people believe, and the fact that they were made up is obvious. The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins goes into detail about this, and approaches the question the way a biologist would.

Analytics Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 It is pretty naive to think that people of other religions cannot feel that spirit, we do not have the exclusive rights to the spirit. The thing is, having faith in the one-and-only "true" religion that has the unique truth, authority, and keys of salvation is categorically different than having faith in any given "false" religion. Admitting that your own religious experience is similar to the religious experience of people who embrace false religions has some disturbing implications.

Admitting that your own religious experience is similar to the religious experience of people who embrace false religions has some disturbing implicationsAre you saying that people of other religions do not have spiritual experiences? Or that they cannot feel the spirit? Any Catholic worth their salt can prove to you that they are the one-and-only "true" religion with a direct line of unbroken authority and the keys to salvation coming directly from Christ himself. It is a matter of documented record in the Catholic church and they can quote scripture to back it up. Ours is a religion of faith, faith in the apostasy, faith in the restoration and more importantly faith in Joseph Smith. Ultimately we can prove nothing. I am a believer but when members say "we" are the one-and-only "true" religion it does not come off well....
