Duncan Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 In Reading Section 138 it seems that in verse 15 'I beheld that they were filled with joy and gladness, and were rejoicing together because the day of their deliverance was at hand." and in verse 16 "They were assembled awaiting the advent of the Son of God into the spirit world, to declare their redemption from the bands of death." So these righteous people as named in vs. 38-49 were disembodied and were they now rejoicing that they were to be resurrected? or is something else going on? Also It seems they had the Gospel preached unto them, why would they need the Gospel preached unto them if they already had it were were faithful in mortality?
VideoGameJunkie Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I feel everyone who died before Jesus' resurrection have been resurrected already and are enjoying the Telestial, Terrestrial, or Celestial kingdoms as we speak. I'm sure they had the ordinance work done in the spirit world and have been judged and are enjoying the eternities. But that's just my own opinion and I have no reference for my opinion.
BCSpace Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) OT people have been resurrected: 50 ¶Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.Matthew 27 I would hazard that the overall implication of our doctrine on the resurrrection is that these are only the righteous who are eligible to come forth in the first resurrection (notice that they are saints). So the first resurrection (Rev 20:5) has essentially started and is still going on. Of course ultimately all will be resurrected at some point as the scriptures say. rpn Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Righteous is not synonymous with having the gospel ordinances or even having learned all of God's commandments. No doubt there are plenty of people whom are Saints in the Lord's definition who haven't. Why else would we be doing missionary work?
thesometimesaint Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Righteous is not synonymous with having the gospel ordinances or even having learned all of God's commandments. No doubt there are plenty of people whom are Saints in the Lord's definition who haven't. Why else would we be doing missionary work? We're limiting it to just those that were righteous enough to be resurrected at that time. No assumption can be made of those whom weren't resurrected at that time. The Morning of the First Resurrection is still going on.
The Nehor Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Some are. We don't know if all of them are. 1
mfbukowski Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Abraham Issac and Jacob are exalted so I am sure they are resurrected. DC 132 37 Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; as Isaac also and Jacob did none other things than that which they were commanded; and because they did none other things than that which they were commanded, they have entered into their exaltation, according to the promises, and sit upon thrones, and are not angels but are gods.

If that were the case, it should be impossible to find human remains that pre-date Christ's resurrection. This seems to be the best attempt to place the LDS teachings on the "resurrection" into some kind of logical order: https://www.lds.org/bc/content/shared/content/images/gospel-library/manual/32499/32499_000_032_01-resurrection.pdf 1
