Jazzdreamer Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 That, my dear Sister, is a wonderful observation. Check out 2 Nephi 26:33. We may have different roles and different strengths and weaknesses (and I'm not differentiating by gender when I say that; I'm including everyone, whatever his or her background, experiences, or station in life). But we're all of equal, infinite worth in God's eyes (see Doctrine & Covenants 18:10-16): you're His Daughter, and I'm His Son, and He loves us both Infinitely. P.S.: And congratulations on your Recommend. You'll never be closer to Heaven in this life than in the Temple. Thank you!
Jazzdreamer Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Totally didn't realize that Jazz dreamer may have gotten the recommend for doing only baptisms for the dead, thanks for clarifying for me Kenngo. It was for doing baptisms of the dead I'm not a year old yet but I also talked about on my one year little anniversary, I want to have a full TR and we discussed a lot of knowledge will come out of that. But at being so young would I want it? And I told him yes I would want it. We discussed the work I've done for the church and he said he would actually love to give me a full TR when my year has passed and that we will discuss it more as the time nears but he believes I should have that knowledge and I'm very happy for that!

I want to be completely prepared!I'm so so so excited for this!!! I'm sorry to still feel confused that such a young person is allowed to get a full recommend, unless marrying or a mission. I wonder if there has been some policy changes since lowering the missionary age. Who knows Jazz if you desire, you could be a missionary!!I think in the past I've heard it goes by individual case by case scenerios. And usually people that really don't think they'll get the chance for marriage in this life and so forth.

I'm gonna keep trying and praying because I want one but I keep getting a no from Heavenly Father. /:And I think my branch notices the difference I've made so far and I believe they see I can make even more progress in our branch the more knowledge I have. I would honestly be a little upset if they told me I couldn't get a full TR until something important came up. Learning about the gospel is important. I want to learn a lot.

Oh they deff are!! I spent 7 hours with them yesterday. I love them to death! And oh yes!! I've learned I have so many resources. Whenever I have a question, I pull out all of them. ^.^
Calm Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) I think in the past I've heard it goes by individual case by case scenerios. And usually people that really don't think they'll get the chance for marriage in this life and so forth.I have heard that leaders are reluctant to give out temple recommends to those who appear to be getting them primarily to be able to go to friends' weddings. And there are women who want to go through the temple for the first time for their own endowment with their husband for the significance that it lends to the experience. However, if someone is interested in attending the temple frequently, that is a different mindset and even in someone young is acceptable. Reluctance to give them out is mainly based on whether or not the person is spiritually mature enough to be able to fully accept the covenants they will be making. I can see leaders would be reluctant to hand them out to those who do not seem to seriously understand the responsibility and consequences of taking on these covenants, but why not for those who do? Obviously age isn't what indicates spiritual maturity since they are given to 18 year old men and 19 year old women if they have chosen to go on mission (choosing to devote their lives fulltime to the service of God is the indication of spiritual maturity here, not age...) Brenda Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) For my knowledge, are you able to link to or otherwise cite this poll, and if possible give known details of how and where it was taken?(Sorry! I copy and pasted, and it came out HUGE.) http://www.pewforum.org/2012/01/12/mormons-in-america-family-life/The survey finds little support for the notion that women should be eligible for the Mormon priesthood. (The Mormon priesthood is different than the priesthood in some other faiths; all worthy male members of the church are eligible to begin priesthood service when they reach age 12, and they may hold various offices in the priesthood at different stages in their lives. Mormon women are not ordained to the priesthood. See the glossary for more details.) One-in-ten Mormons (11%) believe that women should be ordained to the priesthood of their church, whereas 87% think the priesthood should be open only to males. Large majorities of both men and women express this view, but Mormon women are somewhat more likely than Mormon men to say the priesthood should be open only to males (90% vs. 84%). The belief that women should be ordained to the priesthood is less common among those who have the highest levels of religious commitment than among those with lower levels of commitment. Even among this latter group, however, nearly seven-in-ten (69%) say women should not be eligible for the priesthood. Edited November 2, 2013 by Brenda
Brenda Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Yea. It's easy enough to call someone to do it. They want it to come from the heart of them I think.Like I said, I was all for OW in the beginning but honestly, nobody in the OW can agree on what they want. I'm on their Facebook page, I post something...half support half hate it.And I do believe we are in a sense equal. I mean, god made man and woman how they are for a reason.I think the biggest problem they don't recognize is that men need women as much as women need men when it comes to the gospel. I'm glad I've had a great support system who has taught me that.Any daughter of Heavenly Father should feel important of our Heavenly Father. He appreciates us all and wanting their daughters to pass the sacrament seems a little disturbing. Passing that makes them no more or less important than anyone else. I actually feel bad that people feel that way.Thank you! I completely agree! I too have spent some time on the OW facebook page and have been told I am yelling and ranting (which is not true) only because I disagree with what they are doing. I have even defended them online when someone actually DOES rant or "yell" at them. But I have learned, ever since the "pants" issue, to be more understanding and to listen more. Like you, I have never felt less important because I didn't get to pass the sacrament. But I guess I shouldn't assume everyone feels like I do. Some of what worries me about SOME of these women, is their very negative attitude and what they are teaching their own daughters. 3

I get that some people "don't get it" but I think patience and being nice is the way to get through to someone. I do also understand that these women have been pushed over because of their niceness before so in a sense, I get why some are quick to flip the tables but there's a million ways to do feminism and I think all of our different approaches together will even everything out.Again though, I wouldn't want to pass the sacrament. I prefer sitting and having it brought to me...and my church makes me *feel* 1000000% equal without me holding the priesthood though I do get annoyed when I have to enlist the help of the elders for the priesthoodness but they are rather good about everything. Maybe if I was in Utah I might feel a certain way but out in New York, I'm loving it. <3 2

Living currently and having lived in Utah off and on over the years, I want to make a point that my best bishops were in my Utah wards...I think it is much on point that many seem to have higher expectations of Utahans so it seems they are harsher in their judgments of them when they find things that are off (and yes, there are bad bishops in Utah as well as magnificent just like everywhere else) Edited November 3, 2013 by calmoriah 1

CMZ Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I think they have good intentions. African Americans weren't allowed the priesthood either at one point, things change. Stuff happens. Heavenly Father will take care of everything. When African Americans weren't allowed the priesthood they also couldn't go to the temple. Women not having the priesthood conferred upon them does not keep them from going to the temple.
Stone holm Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 When African Americans weren't allowed the priesthood they also couldn't go to the temple. Women not having the priesthood conferred upon them does not keep them from going to the temple. There was a period, however, that single women were not issued Temple Recommends unless they were going on fulltime missions, or were considered basically what some single women used to label themselves as "lifers" = likely never to marry.

Was that different than how single men were treated though? If they were not going to go on a mission, did they generally still get endowed before single women in the church? Sincere question as I honestly have no idea.
juliann Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Wait a minute, am I dreaming or do I hear it quoted that "80%" of men think women should have the priesthood? Is there some other study or have the numbers been mixed up? Edited November 26, 2013 by juliann
