No disrespect to them but it will be about 30 years before I can stand to hear them again. I absolutely love Abide With Me, 'Tis Eventide.

That Christmas Devotion, tickets you got me made it a great trip to Utah that year. Not living in Utah, this was my only chance to hear the motab, live in the Conference Center. My wife still speaks of it 11+ years later.

Or...Hmm...now you have me imagining awful things happening...the mike at the pulpit blows up or someone having heart attack or security having to address a bomb threat....I can just see the TV guy saying 'quick, cut to the MoTab and let's get a song going to distract everyone...'. HiJolly Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 Last year we did a drill where a Tab Choir member has a (fake) heart attack in the Choir loft during a song. It was pretty cool. They asked us not to watch the guy when he keeled over, or when the emergency response people carried him off on a stretcher. The cameras avoided the area and you couldn't really see the problem (as long as we didn't look!). 1

Kind of like the show must go on, but still, even at a sporting event they stop and stand in silence to observe or pay their respect. Then clap when they look well enough. Calm Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) My husband pointed out an excellent reason for this practice, though I don't know if that is the reason they do this...I was thinking it was most likely out of a sense of privacy and not turning someone's personal hardship into a sideshow as so often happens when something tragic happens on camera.His reason....Conference is seen all over the world, including in places that are highly superstitious. When he was in Uruguay on his mission, there was a beautiful new chapel being built for the two very active and growing branches that were in a particular town. While it was being built, one of the branch presidents fell off of the scaffolding and died (I think that is what he said, but it could have been badly injured). When the building was finished, there were perhaps a couple of dozen members to fill it as opposed to a couple of hundred. All had gone inactive apparently thinking the man's death was a sign that the Church wasn't true or worse, evil.It would make sense to me that Church leaders having probably had this experience at least a few times, that they would take into account the cultural baggage that people bring into their new faith (and it wouldn't be far fetched to believe that anti-mormons would try to make the most of it considering what has been done in the past to spread rumours about the Church and LDS in general), so I am thinking it may be for this and the issue of privacy and respect even though our gut reaction is that taking official notice of such an occurrence is more respectful, still in the long run who wants to be known as the guy who had a heart attack during conference, etc. (at least who would want that if they had any sense of proper proportion....granted there are probably a number of people who want fame at any cost, hopefully not too many of them will be present in the CC next weekend). Calm Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 (edited) Apparently the Choir is the perfect sleeping 'pill' for my littlest grandchild (she will be two in January)...when she won't settle down (as is happening right now a lot due to Mom being out of town), he just pops on the Choir Channel on his phone and she goes right out... What is it about starting them young and they will never stray far or something....though I am not sure if sleeping counts. Edited October 5, 2013 by calmoriah
