According to the article, Barb Young said, "One of the most beautiful things about this church is that it can evolve. It may not go as fast as everyone wants, but it is evolving."

 

Currently (as I understand it) the policy of the LDS Church is that it is not a sin to be sexually attracted to a person of the same gender, but it is a sin to act on that attraction.

 

Is it possible that the the LDS Church will someday evolve to the point of sanctioning same-gender marriages?

 

If it did, would that be a sign to you that the church had been led astray?

If President Monson were to announce a revelation sanctioning same-sex marriage this up-coming conference, I would be thrilled. But that's wishful thinking.

It will be interesting to see how the church will deal with this issue in the next few decades. As homosexuality and gay marriage becomes more accepted, the church will become more demonized.

No.  Consider the fact that no doctrine or interpretation of doctrine has changed on the Homosexual/SSM issue in all these years.  All the Church has done is deftly emphasize whatever facet of the doctrine necessary to deflect the issue.

To accept that, the Church would have to abandon several of its core teachings, as well as cease believing portions of the New Testament and also would have to take a stance of rejecting the words of Jesus concerning marriage.  I do not see that happening any time soon.

 

I do agree that the Church will increasingly be demonized.  Lawsuits against the Church also are coming, if there is any truth to what I have been hearing over the last year from some very vocal homosexuals in the area where I live.  They want the right to be sealed in a temple of their choosing in states where Same sex marriage has been legalized, and they are going to push until they get it.  Probably just bluster but who knows? They just might get the backing to make things very expensive for the Church.  Time will tell.

I do find it disconcerting that people would want this to happen; to completely turn upside down everything we know of the Plan of Salvation, God's plan for his children, the scriptures, literally the entire history of Eloheim and Jehovah's interaction with man for a teaching about what has been perversion from the beginning. It is as if I somehow missed out on an entire set of teaching that these individuals have been exposed; where was I when this was happening?

 

I actually agree with SY that our gay brothers and sisters are exactly like our father made them. I don't believe their was a conscious choice one day to be gay; they are who they are. I also believe that is the case for each of us. We are the way God made us and we each have a cross to bear; not a single human came into this world and did not experience challenges, pain, heartache, and rejection. It is easy to say that "I" had it harder than others because we are the only ones that experience our lives. However, I know far too many people who have truly had insurmountable challenges and they came out on top. I know others who have failed, been overwhelmed by life's many challenges. All I can determine is that it is a personal, private struggle that we each must fight.

 

It is a completely foreign for me to make assumptions that a specific group has it much harder than everyone else in life.  To follow God, to sacrifice one's will, desires, wants, and passions for God's plan is what this life is all about. We get to choose if we will follow God's plan or not. I reject any attempt to shape God into our image and put words in his mouth so that our itching ears feel better.

 

Also, SY and his family are not the only ones with relatives that have this specific challenge. I gladly accept to love, but I cannot call black, white and vice-versa or evil, good.
