It hasn't changed, but Hasidic Jews like to prolong the holiness of the Sabbath after its official closing. 1

It also gives the reading assignment for that particular Sabbath, i.e., Torah, but they also study the Bible as they are Messianic Jews. GG

Doctrine 612 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 You could blame the light bulb and electricity, since people are staying up longer then before, since iam a convert a lot of things I do are diffrent, we as a family start the sabbath durring Saturday dinner then after we retire to scripture study, prayer, and church videos, ect..Then after Sunday dinner. The sabbath is over.In other country's the sabbath is not always on Sundays.

As we were talking about this, he suggested the Church go to the Jewish sabbath pattern in areas where the community accommodates the large Jewish population, such as is done in LA.

The LDS Church conforms to the whatever is the local Sabbath, at least in terms of meetings. In Israel I understand that Sacrament meeting is held on Saturday, and in Saudi Arabia, it is held on Friday. Or that is what I have been told, anyway. That's a good original question, too. When DID the holy day shift from the traditional Sabbath to Sunday, midnight to midnight?
LordUther Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I believe it was with the change of the calendar, in ancient times many societies saw the day as being sundown to sundown. When we changed to the modern calendar that changed to midnight to midnight.
