I remember the jabs and snickers and remarks if a male wore anything other than a white shirt to church, as if somehow, the pale blue hue of his dress shirt made him inferior or less righteous; same for beards & mustaches (which is almost laughably hypocritical, particularly if one looks at the pictures of the prophets of the church, many of whom sported some pretty righteous facial hair, and don't even get started on the fact that Christ is always depicted with a beard).Conformity is highly valued in the LDS religion.I'm taking Temple classes right now, so it might cause difficulties if I get too rambunctious. I'm certainly not going to the temple tonight wearing a Hijab. LOL I think this is a little bit of the doctrine that needs to be clarified. One man in particular really arouses my ire. He is at least a foot taller than me, and when he talks to me, he makes me look up at him and then he talks to me like a big brother. Grrrrrr I'm old enough to be his Mother!

So, when he have pentagrams on temples, or symbols of the sun or moon, or masonic symbols, we give little heed to those who criticize and try to impose other meaning for those symbols on us. We do this as a Church because of the courage born of conviction.It can be difficult to exhibit the same kind of courage on an individual level which is why there is so much conformity in the Church. It doesn't help that the leadership sometimes acts in a somewhat inconsistent manner by making ill-advised pronouncements about long hair and beards. Of course, we desire to be obedient, so we will often succumb to well-meaning but ultimately meaningless directives.I applaud any person who has the courage to hold fast to their own cultural traditions in the the face of unrelenting attempts to Americanize everyone and everything. Wear your hijab with pride and with the quiet confidence that unseen courage is the most courageous example you can set for others. And if anyone says anything, just smille and tell them it keeps your head warm . . . then offer to take them shopping for one.I might just do that very thing! If you are an ordinance worker, you need to shave your beard off. YET...we have pictures of JESUS sporting a beard and mustache, and early church leaders up to the 50s sporting them. WHAT REVELATION has been received that says in order to be a leader AFTER the 50s you MUST be clean shaven. I don't have a beard and mustache myself, but when we were trying to convince my son he needed a hair cut, he's like..."Jesus has long hair. You said you want me to be like Jesus""Well son..um...ur...Because if you don't we are taking away your allowance!"I sometimes have this image of Jesus coming back to the temple and getting escorted immediately off to get trim..I tried that old "but Jesus had long hair" to my stepfather and he replied with, "when you can act like Jesus you can have long hair"Needless to say I sport a fauxhawk! 1

Symbols of the corportae (the body of Christ) elite (elect)!

Even then it is only highly valued by some members.LOL. One part of the Muslim prayer ritual is with arms crossed, right arm over the left.
