Duncan Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) Do you think it's possible to have female ward mission leaders one day? Edited November 4, 2012 by Duncan
rpn Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I don't see any doctrinal reason why women could not be ward mission leaders. And if, as seems possible, women become the majority of the missionaries, it may even make practical sense. 1
Bikeemikey Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I would say a vast majority of calling could fit this picture - the reverse also, male primary presidents for example. 1

Betsy80 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I have been in a ward with a female WML. It was a tiny singles ward with about 50 people in attendance each week, maybe 15 of those were males. She did a fantastic job. I always wondered though, had there been more active priesthood holders if she would have still received that calling.

The stake president make a stink about it so he called a "couple" to do it.That wasn't ok either so he simply called the women's husband to the position and then He had his wife do all the work. I had a comp in the mission field, he was the seniour companion on paper but i was running the show
Storm Rider Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Do you think it would be possible for everyone to walk around so perfectly comfortable with with own bodies they could be nude all the time. Do you think it would be possible for children to teach high school? Do you think it would be possible for cars to only use solar energy? Do you think it would be possible for God not to exist? Do you think it would be possible for people to all wear green clothes because that is my favorite color? Do you think it would be possible to serve cheese cake for breakfast every day of the year? Do you think it would be possible for everyone to be perfect? Do you think it is possible for all conservatives to be reprogrammed? Do think it is possible to stamp out stupidity in the entire world? Do you think it would be possible that all tree leaves could be blue?I wonder what the value is of wondering about why God acts the way he does? I wonder if the better choice is choosing to follow God's will rather than our own? 1

A bishop can no more call a clerk than he can call an elders quorum president. A bishop does not hold the keys of presidency over the Melchizedek priesthood. A mission leader is also a priesthood calling. A bishop can no more call a women to be a ward mission leader than he can call a man to be a primary president. He can call ward missionaries who are female, but not a ward mission leader. Unless you can find different directions in the church policy manual.

Of executive secretary. My bad, I just confirmed it with him.Cheers.

california boy Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Would it ever be appropriate for an elder qurom to have a sister assigned to teach and elders qurom class once a month?Sounds reasonable to me. She would probably provide a completely different perspective on lesson material. I was once asked to teach a lesson in Relief Society. I didn't know there might be something inappropriate about that. They just wanted my views on art because I am a commercial artist and had some expertise that the sisters did not have. Some of the church artists that were mentioned in the manuel were professors at BYU. They taught some of the classes I took.

I taught about Priesthood blessings and she was interested in a guy in the quorum so I dunno what she talked about! 1

I am the ward mission leader here and there isn't anything I do that a woman couldn't. I teach gospel essentiels and hold correlation meeting and sometimes go out with the elders but I know they go out with women sometimes, they just meet at the person's home
Saints Alive Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I think it would make sense to have a female ward mission leader, if not exclusively, then in addition to a male ward mission leader. Especially if we see an increase in female missionaries. 1

cesc101 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Do you think it's possible to have female ward mission leaders one day? No!Not unless we change the present organizational structures as stipulated by the "handbook".
rpn Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I have to laugh at those who cite the CHI for the proposition that something CANNOT be done. (1) They haven't read the handbook which anticipates personal revelation within one's calling ---- the handbook is good place to start and should inform any differences. (2) they haven't lived in a ward/branch where doing things the normal way is simply impossible and where leaders have to do the best they can to help the work progress (with lots of innovation).
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Do you think it's possible to have female ward mission leaders one day?I don't see why not...there are no Priesthood keys in this calling that I remember. I think it would be great.
cesc101 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Perhaps even a couples calling like mission president is... Sort ofI think my myopic perceptions buys into this than all other speculations (but then of-course am also speculating).
