Bob Oliverio Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Why do we as a Church do dumb things at the wrong time? With everything this nation has on the line, and the need to support an incredible candidate who is up against the most biased odds of our national media, why does the Church keep doing the most stupid thing by highlighting the very core issue we need to avoid. Sometime I wonder if any of our leaders ever step back, exercise an ounce of common sense and just THINK before they react!!!This exposure at the worst time is senseless and just goes to show our own ignorance and stupidity in common sense!!!Way too much focus on something that should have been a non issue.http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-09-22/news/sns-rt-us-usa-mormon-disciplinebre88m012-20120922_1_mormon-church-church-spokesman-excommunication

Popular Post bluebell Posted September 24, 2012 Popular Post Posted September 24, 2012 I'm not sure what the issue is. The church is just doing what it's always been doing, right? I wouldn't want the church to start making decisions based on whether or not someone could spin it in a negative direction. 11
Popular Post Kenngo1969 Posted September 24, 2012 Popular Post Posted September 24, 2012 Oh, man! Bob, if only you were in charge of such decisions, alas! "Yeah, Bishop Smith? This is Brother Oliverio from Church Public Affairs. I understand you had a Church Court of Love scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. Is that right? Yeah, we're going to need you to hold off on that for awhile, Bishop Smith. Yeah, well ... It's the optics of the whole thing, Bishop. Well, it just looks bad, you know? Yeah. Right. Right. We'll let you know if and when you've got the green light to go ahead with it." 10

An utterly ridiculous idea. 6

"LDS church delays normal procedure to advantage Mormon candiate".Also, you suggestion that the Church should attempt to advantage Mitt Romney is offensive... please do not suggest that my religious faith be coopted for any ones political advantage. 5

This is the week they read the political neutrality letter in my ward at least. 1

Bob Oliverio Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 I think you have missed my point. I've never heard of this Twede fella. I've never heard of his website. Just like this place, no one in America probably knows it exists. I doubt anyone would/could care less about what this nobody was saying about Romney or the Church. No one cares or even listens to this guy. HE AND HIS SIGHT ARE INSIGNIFICANT TO EVERYONE.But now, because of the zealous acts of of few righteous members of the our Church, he becomes a national media attention and so does an unfair character image become on the Church and a great candidate for our future. We got articles all over the web showing how fellow brothers like some idiot Gordon at some other obscure website wants to be so diligent to expose this guy to Church authorities. For what?? Have we not seen from history that this only brings negative media attention when you have a guy with an ax to grind publicly? This Twede fella would have remained a non-event if the Church authorities would have exercised an ounce of common sense and just deferred any action for a few months. Now we just got more negative image for damage control that hurts a super leader and great candidate at a time when he's unfairly fighting against so much media biased odds.Yes, common sense could have prevented this whole situation in the media. For those who can't see this - you clearly have no idea what's at stake this November.

We are on the Lord's timetable, not our own and certainly not that of the political winds of this country. On the other hand, why would one do something stupid like post anti-Mormon information on a personal website, actively support such an agenda, and be a wolf in sheep's clothing? Yes, sometimes we who are members of the Church do stupid things at the wrong times. But, in this case, I think you have the blame for stupidity misplaced. Edited September 24, 2012 by MormonMason 2

MormonMason Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 (edited) That one of the two candidates for whom I wouldn't give a tinker's dam will lose to the other? At the risk of getting too political and possibly getting this thread shut down, I have to remark that at least one of them really does care about Israel. The other pretends to care for Israel and insists on cutting all the borders back to pre-1967 conditions, as well as giving Jerusalem away. In order to prevent being directly political, I will only say what I have without naming names. We all can figure out who stands for what and what that might potentially mean for America and Israel in the long run. Edited September 24, 2012 by MormonMason 1

Even under a certain someone a few years ago who was sympathetic, there was still a lot of pressure on us. Roadmaps and whatnot. So, I'm not seeing a huge difference so far. 1

blackstrap Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Is it not prophesied that in the last days the WHOLE world will unite against Israel? Even unsophisticated old me can see a luming conflict where the world will turn quickly to condemn . Where's that unblemished calf when we need it?
