Libs Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 "Anti-Mormon verses Mormon""verses" should be "versus". You might want to change that on your website.
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) I have watched several of the Heart of the Matter shows on bornagainmormon.com. Whether anyone would like to admit it or not he has had an affectIf I had led one person out of the Church...I would have an affect (effect). I listed both...not sure which is correct. Bill “Papa” Lee Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) And lose everything? Because I would, lose everything. And I don't feel comfortable around the EV's yet. "Yet"...my dear Sister stay away from these sites. "...they lie in wait to deceive". Trust me I have 1,000,s of post there...I know for a fact. Edited July 20, 2012 by Bill “Papa” Lee
cdowis Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Anti-Mormon verses MormonMy guest was Shawn McCraney. He is an ex-Mormon who hosts a weekly anti-Mormon TV show which airs in Salt Lake City, Utah and Boise, Idaho. The fact that Shawn is an aggressive anti-Mormon, and I, Van Hale, am a believing, participating Mormon, resulted in a lively and confrontational dialogue. snipIf you have a question or comment, your participation is invited, regardless of your point of view.I have a question. An Antimormon can represent himself, but who the heck are you that you represent the LDS church? Some smart guy who is equally aggressive, and that;s it? Has the church approved you to be its representative. To be crude, I think you are simply representing your ego. That is my point of view. 1
selek1 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 If I had le one person out of the Church...I would have an affect (effect). I listed both...not sure which is correct. You a-ffect others. You cause an e-ffect.

Zakuska Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) McCraney's audience (and Dehlin's, and so on, and so on) are not there for the discussion, but for the spectacle. (Ironically, that's the main draw of the Trailer Park and a lot of the ex-Mormon boards).Hey... I found the trailer park!Send in the Danites! Edited July 20, 2012 by Zakuska

Zakuska Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Obviously Christ believed it a requirement as well. And if we are to turn our lives over to Christ shouldn't we follow his example? So did the Christians who learned from the Apostles.
Tacenda Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 http://hotm.tv/ep-377/ Shawn finally relented and brought a non representative of the church in, but a faithful believing member to answer questions of what LDS actually believe. Normally Shawn said that he only wanted representatives of the church to come on the show. Doug did an awesome job and was honest with his answers.
Hannah Rebekah Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I haven't got any answers yet. Or am I up in the night? The reason I'm going around in circles is because I haven't received the answers. Show me where I have. Below I posted this. See what you think. I'm not anti, not at all, maybe a little dense sometimes.http://www.bible.ca/mor-questions.htmHow many of these questions put forth by this website could be answered by FAIR or any of you on this board? I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but need answers and my whole life depends on it. Facts, not feelings right now. They have proven that the mind can't have a logical thought without feeling. Those who's brains were damaged in the area where feelings are located could not form a logical sentence, it's just not possible. http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2009/09/vulcans-nixed-you-cant-have-logic-without-emotion-a-galaxy-classic.html 2
EllenMaksoud Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I have watched several of the Heart of the Matter shows on bornagainmormon.com. Whether anyone would like to admit it or not he has had some affect on the LDS and has brought quite a few out of the church. Granted, LDS members that may have been like me, social in the church and not really into the doctrines etc. until some things come up, had no idea of JS's particular polygamy, are easily prusuaded. In his show he goes over and over on the born again commandment. That we should be born again on top of baptism at eight or whatever age. I'm, like my tag line says, a middle wayer. Do I jump the fence and go to his side of logic or do I stay LDS because that would be so much easier for my life. And LDS are my life! Some of the best people on this planet are mormon, help!!But...when he brings up the scripture...Matthew 19:29 And everyone that has forsaken houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. Again a stumbling block. Also, as many on here have told me to do, to pray to get that witness, I then get the "not to trust my feelings" scripture as in Romans 10:17 - Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Faith does not come by feelings or by praying for emotional experiences. Again another stumbling block..Finally, to get to the gist of my post, Shawn McRaney said on the show that he's asked for Scott Gordon from FAIR to come on the show, or any scholar or apologist. And even commented he would leave the building and give the whole one hour show to the scholar, apologist or even better a GA.Would any of you please offer an answer as to why no one is showing up for this proposition of his?If people are out there watching the show and not seeing two sides, just his side, shouldn't someone be the apologist, defender of your faith. People like me (kind of weak) need you. Yet all we hear are birds chirping. Seeing & hearing may be a nice addition to just reading the words.Thank you sorry for the long post!I have been having a fruitless and at times angering exchange with him for months and it has grown sickening and damning. I use the name Khadijah Brown with him. Tacenda, why are you wasting your time with this bitter, angry man? He will just tear you down and destroy your testimony if he can. In my opinion, he is actually mad at God for life not going his way, and he has a huge problem with authority. Now that I have admonished you to not talk to him, I shalll be forced to obey my own advice.. 1

I love to have nice, civil conversations with people, and I might engage some of his question if he could stop with the acidic attacks. I would like to put Spironolactone in his coffee for about 6 months. He also needs to understand that lots of questions have a variety of answers, and none of us has the knowledge to over rule the other. If I could afford it, I would like to drive down there and have lunch with him, trying to get him to calm down and be civil. He feels he was wronged by the church, and apparently rose Stake level positions in the church from what I understand. It is odd that I would say that because angry men really, really frighten me, but in him, I sense someone who is quite wounded.
Tacenda Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Ellen, I don't have anything to do with Shawn. He does need to stop harping on the church and move on. I just posted this because I was impressed with the LDS man that came on the show and how he was honest about our doctrine. 1
why me Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Makes sense to me. I think you're right, the only way it would work, is on neutral ground.Usually, when a mormon scholar is engaged in such a situation, the opponent begins to bring up things which the mormon has to defend. It may be doctrine, it may be history etc. The opponent is not objective in their criticism. It is like playing chess with the mormon playing black. Such debates are never neutral when one opponent is so negative toward mormonism.
cdowis Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I personally invited Shawn to join our discussion here, but, using the F word, he declined.

Tacenda Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Cdowis, have you never heard an LDS swear using the "f" word? I have. And I'm not trying to apologise for him or stand up for him. Just his LDS guest, Doug!!! Edited January 17, 2014 by Tacenda
Calm Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Cdowis, have you never heard an LDS swear using the "f" word? I have.If I heard a LDS using that word towards someone (as opposed to being startled into its use be banging his head against a cupboard door for instance) I would see a need to repent just as in the scriptures labelling one's brother as a fool rendered one unworthy of the temple, iirc. There is a harshness and cruelty and selfishness Inherent in the word (or it used to be) and many other words of its type to the point that I doubt the sincerity of someone claiming to love a person they would be willing to swear at....just as I would doubt it if they were physically cruel to them. Shawn''s heart might soften yet towards mormonism, he's always said he loves the people. He might come around yet.Is the member an apologist? Or is the member just a member who is attempting to explain what mormonism is? Also, this thread was started two years ago. I am glad if he is progressing but using the f bomb when responding to a request may just show actual intent.

Just his LDS guest, Doug!!!But it does show his intent toward mormon apologists. Not very christian in his response. I have always found it amazing just how christians can be harsh toward mormonism in attitude and speech and yet, get a free pass from other christians.
