A Board For Recommend Holding Lds (Politics Included)?

Log

Recommended Posts

Suppose there was a forum that had 3 tiers, say, a Telestial tier where non-members and members alike could congregate, a Terrestrial tier where members alone could post, and a Celestial tier where only recommend-holding members could post or read.

Suppose further that principled political discussions, without any advocacy of candidates, could be held in the bottom two tiers.

Would you use that board?

If you would not use that board, what would you suggest should be changed so that you would use it?

Thanks for any input.

1. No titles as I suspect there are celestial non-members and telestial recommend holders.

2. Seems unpoliceable without serious invasions of privacy.

3. As much as I have been interested in some threads here that have been shut down because of 'politics' ie.Law of Consecration,Jesus' view of socialism etc.

I fear that it would often degade into a shouting match.

What would be the purpose of having temple recommends?

There would presumably be greater common ground, such as in beliefs and values, and, especially, experiences. I would hope that recommend carrying members would be more charitable among themselves, more given to self-discipline and deep thinking.

Ok.

2. Seems unpoliceable without serious invasions of privacy.

It is unenforceable to a point. It would be on the honor system; a potential poster would affirm that they had a current temple recommend from the Church to themselves. If the poster undertakes to undermine faith, the Church, the Brethren, or slander another poster, they would lose their posting priveleges in the Celestial level. Just some thoughts.

That's why I want recommend holders - I am hoping they are generally better behaved.

Truth be told, what I want is a haven for Saints - those who know, or have known, Father and Christ. You know how we get to talk in the foyer sometimes, amongst ourselves, having conversations face-to-face the likes of which we cannot have here? I want a space for that.

I would rather just meet with those that are committed to following Jesus Christ and seek truth regardless of religious affiliation. I have had some deeply spiritual conversations with individuals from many different Christian churches/denominations. It is wonderful to talk about theosis, God's purpose for creation, the Atonement with these people; they are seeking the same truth of the gospel that I seek after.

I served in the temple for over eight years; I promise that ordinance workers come in all different flavors with a varying degree of gospel understanding. They are can be a wonderful group of people to serve with, but you will find those rare individuals that are marching to a beat from a distant drum. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.

I don't like those kinds of divisions and I wouldn't want to participate on any level. I think we learn more from those who are very different from us, than from those are most like us.

Doesn't that other Mormon discussion board (I think it's mostly an "anti" board) have those kinds of divisions?

Well, Mr. SR, the recommend is simply a proxy for the actual qualification I want the posters in the Celestial level to have. That qualification is, in practical terms, restricted to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - because, were someone to have it outside of the Church, they would join the Church once they heard the message. There's always the Telestial level, though, for those outside of the faith.

Thankfully, the days of compulsory forum use are long since over.

Mmm... I probably would not want this. I could understand a forum section which completely dealt with no-criticisms allowed, but restricting it to temple reccomend holders would, I think, not really contribute to the environment wanted. Not to mention that temple reccomend holders have disagreements too =).

Alas, people may do what they wish, that they can.

And a worried cat, to finish things off:

Well, TAO, what I really want is probably impossible in anything but face-to-face discussions. This is just the closest approximation I could come up with to it.

Nah, yeah, I know. You want somewhere a bit more protected, which, could be a good thing. I just don't know if temple reccomends would do it. But then again, I don't have a suggestion either, so what am I saying? Hrmm.....

And now for another complimentary (but rather unrelated) cat picture (I hope you don't mind =0):

Of course. But, you were asking if people would participate or not, so was offering my opinion.

Thanks haha. I've been trying to include them because... well... it adds flavor to the posts. Oftentimes posts around here are just a ton of text back and forth... and so I sorta feel why not throw in an image that (hopefully) people can laugh about. Not sure if it works though lol. But I'm glad you like it =).

I asked for usable feedback from those against participating. Just condemning the whole idea doesn't help me get where I want to be.

Protection is only part of it. Indeed, not even the most important part.

I am cat lover (an animal lover, in general!), so I always enjoy those kinds of pictures. It does rather break up the monotony of so many "words". :D

You asked if we would use that kind of forum, and why or why not. I gave you my answer and a "why". Could be you were reading a tone in my post that wasn't there. I am not against others using that kind of format, if that's what they want. It just wouldn't appeal to me. But, I'm not a current "recommend" holder, so perhaps you are just not interested in my input?

Actually, I asked, "If you would not use that board, what would you suggest should be changed so that you would use it?"

I can understand not wanting to be left out. I just don't know any other way to produce the kind of forum I'd like to see.

Yeah, I understand, Log. That's cool. I didn't mean to sound so critical of it, but it just came across to me as being kind of snooty and "elitist"...sort of. But, I really do understand that you, probably, just want a place to share with people of similar mind.
