What Keeps You Interested?

I hope this question is legit on this forum:

What keeps you interested in Mormonism?

Why not just paint or draw or something instead of go to church and debate stuff on this forum?

Eternal growth. I like the way the Holy Spirit teaches me more and more about things I already thought I knew. I also like teaching my children and watching them grow in wisdom and stature.

This board is different from the Gospel. Here I just like to be challenged and consider things I normally wouldn't get to talk about in the limited time and scope of Sunday School. There are some great minds here - and some funny ones.

What keeps you interested in anything? Do you have something that keeps you interested in it in life, or are you perpetually bored? If so, what keeps you interested?

This board has been a fun and fascinating journey. I've gotten mad. I've laughed. I've been intellectually challenged. I hope I've made friends...even with Selek1, Pahoran and Lehi. Though I tend to disagree with them most...and they know I'm usually right but they won't admit it.

I'm sticking with Mormonism because at a very difficult time, I felt Heavenly Father's love. A testimony I thought was lost was given some hope and a breath of fresh air.

What keeps me on the forum? People keep me interested, as always. And fun questions. And other things. Occasionally, something to think about deeply. But also other people to help deeply as well, I would hope.

What keeps me in the church? Personal experience which is life changing... and makes life worth living for me. It has made life have purpose, and I need that more than almost anything else I can think of. It is an important value in my heart.

I would be very disappointed if life came to a halt and nothing happened, it was just as dead end. I would be even more disappointed, because under that (atheistic) model, humans will probably fade eventually, making my efforts useless. The alternative is good to believe in, I have found.

Hi.

No, I'm not perpetually bored. I'm actually perpetually busy. I wish I wasn't so busy sometimes. I'm burning the midnight oil working after spending the evening with my little ones.

Painting and drawing are a couple of things that keep me interested.

And in case you want to know, this is the type of drawing I'm involved in right now (sleeves): sleeves.gif

Haha, I totally understand... I'm the same way. And I'm guessing when you aren't doing physical things, you are either thinking of sleeping... but that you don't like 'wasting' time doing nothing at all, right? =).

If so, I'm the same way (somewhat) =D.

We had a friend and her daughter over for a missionary discussion with the Elders tonight. It reminded me of my own lessons years ago... very exciting!

Yeah, I could see how that would be exciting. Your first comment about eternal growth was too abstract for me.

Thanks!

But you didn't answer my question: what keeps interested in whatever you are interested in?

But you didn't answer my question: what keeps interested in whatever you are interested in?

That's because you didn't address my question. I didn't realize you were being sincere.

I think the question is acceptable, but it is just odd. This board is not our lives; it is something we do for varying periods of the day or week and is mostly a form of entertainment or hobby.

Mormonism or the gospel of Jesus Christ is not a hobby or a form of entertainment. It is an expression of discipleship to Jesus Christ. It provides a structure through which we express our devotion, love, and commitment to serve our Master. As we serve him we hope to become more like him; in becoming more like him our relationship with him and with the Father strengthens and grows. In addition it allows us to be of greater service to our fellowman.

I think I have already answered 3rd question above.

So basically you don't have an answer to that question, or find it hard to give an answer. Don't you think that before asking such a question from someone else, you should make sure you have an answer to the same question with regard to something that you might be interested in? because the most basic answer to that question is going to be the same regardless of what it is that you are interested in.

But I will answer your question anyway. What keeps me interested in Mormonism is that I know it is a true religion. I believe in God, I believe in Jesus Christ, I believe in the restoration gospel in the last days through Joseph Smith, and I am immensely interested in the doctrines and theology of Mormonism because I happen to believe it is true. I find that it makes me happy to actively participate in the life of the Church, in worshipping God, and in doing those things God wants me to do. Participating in this forum is a small part of that general interest in Mormonism. It enables me to discuss my thoughts and ideas with others of the same faith, and/or share them others not of the same faith. Does that answer your question?

I come here for a number of reasons, some worthwhile, others trivial. But mostly it is like a tooth cavity. I lost a filling some time back and would continually stick my tongue into the cavity to see if it still hurt.

Jesus Christ. Mormonism is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and He was intersted in me first so I am following suit (I John 4:19).

I do many other things that I am interested in (my wife, children, grandchildren, kayaking, white water rafting, running, composing music, and a number of other enjoyable activities. Mowing the lawn, beleive it or not, keeps me interested.)

Who says I debate stuff on this forum?

Thanks everyone. I liked the answers.

Oh, and for the guy with the name that also starts with a z (my space is limited on this mobile device), here is my answer:

Because it brings me joy.

Thank you! And what makes you think my answer to that question should be any different?

By the way, I am also typing this on a mobile device--iPod to be exact--and I have learned to overcome most of its limitations.

The question is rather strange as I'm not sure if the question should really be what keeps you interested in this board. It's not really a question of "interest" in Mormonism. That is something that is ingrained and so much a part of my life that it's not a matter of interest but a matter of lifestyle.

I do remain interested in this board however because sometimes there are some very insightful things said. Furthermore I always enjoy a good religious discussion and the fact that there are both believers and non-believers makes it more interesting. Plus the moderation tries to keep everyone in line which makes for a more pleasant place for discussion than some of the other sites I've seen.

What keeps you interested in Mormonism?

It works--reliably, predictably, and consistently--and the outcome is a continual increase of joy, love, and understanding. Quite literally, it means that my life is qualitatively better and better from one week to the next.

When I was little, I wanted to have an interesting life like Spiderman. This is even better!

What keeps me interested in this board? I think it's entertaining and interesting to discuss religious beliefs with other people.

What keeps me interested in the mormon church, why don't i take up art instead? Well, to me that's like asking what keeps me interested in my family, why don't i take up gardening instead?

I'm interested in my family because it's my family and i don't believe there is anything more important that i could do with my time. Hobbies are fine but they pale in comparison to what i gain by being an active part of my family.

Likewise, I'm interested in the mormon church because it's my church and because i believe it's important. No hobby could ever take it's place in my life.
