What Keeps You Interested?

It sounds like a question meant for the posters on this board that are not LDS. Well, at least the question doesn't sound as confused when I imagine it from that perspective.

I am LDS. :hi: I am LDS because the truth sets me free.

I post on this board for the same reason as you, joy. I also paint, draw, watch movies, exercise daily, and read a lot.

I will add though that I paint with my fingers or if I use a brush it is usually to make simple flowers and stick people, I draw reenactments of the scriptures (sometimes in church), I do not watch rated R movies, my motivation behind exercise is the Word of Wisdom, and I read ~ well, as much as I can. I also spend an ample amount of time on Scouts with my son and the Young Women church program with my daughter. Then of course there is always the never-ending laundry, dishes, cooking meals, shopping, and general daily houseworks.

Mostly, I love to practice being more Christ like in all that I do, to share His gospel, and live in His name. All these hobbies give me equal opportunity to do so.

Edit: To clarify, being LDS is not a hobby ~ but I don't think you intended for your question to sound that way. It is, however, what moves me through each day and inspires all my hobbies. The gospel of Jesus Christ changes everything. ^_^

What keeps you interested in Mormonism?

It is the value I continue to derive therefrom--value I don't get just from doing art (by the way, I often draw during church, so it isn't an either/or choice for me).

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

I hope this question is legit on this forum:

What keeps you interested in Mormonism?

Why not just paint or draw or something instead of go to church and debate stuff on this forum?

In a nutshell, what keeps me interested in Mormonism is how it seems to offer more answers to life’s big questions than other religions do. Only in Mormonism is it said that we have authority because Heavenly Father and Jesus showed themselves in a vision to our founding prophet. That is something far more concrete and absolute than you would find anywhere else. Divinity is not as distant or abstract in Mormonism.

Whatever colorful or controversial statements that Mormonism’s top leaders have made (both in the past and the present), it still doesn’t change the fact that it is a vibrant religion and enriches many people’s lives for the better. There always seems to be something to talk about. Even the people who leave Mormonism don’t usually stop talking about it.

What I like about this message board is how we see a diversity of voices here. It makes the discussions more interesting. There seems to be more of a level playing field between the believers and the unbelievers and everybody in between. As long as you behave well and aren’t overly adversarial, you are pretty much free to share your views here regardless of what they might be.

I LOVE the board! I am learning all kinds of new things! I really don't have these kinds of discussions with people around here so I come here and learn! A friend of mine and I watched Truman Madsen's DVD series on "The Eternal Christ" and I think both of us walked away thinking, wow we know nothing, nothing at all and it's all right there, so we have to keep learning and never stop!

The short answer about why this board is that the only place I can find people as crazy as I am is on the internet. About the religion...It's the only one I ever found that ever cogently answered the question about the purpose of existence. Oh, and the fact that I am utterly convinced of the truth and historocity of the Book of Mormon, and once that question is settled, the only thing up for debate is how much you are going to get with the program. Easy to say, harder to do.

What keeps you interested in Mormonism?

God. Love. Repentance. Peace. Hope. Rebirth. The Temple. Truth. etc. For me it's not a question. It's like asking why I'm interested in food. I need it, want it, and love it.

Why not just paint or draw or something instead of go to church and debate stuff on this forum?

for church....I enjoy to spirit and it renews me for the week. I like partaking of the sacrament and remembering my covenants with God.

This forum. It's pretty sporadic as it is, so it's not like it takes up too much time. And besides it takes far less time and energy than painting does for me.

With luv,

BD

What keeps you interested in poking people with a stick? You could have been drawing something during the time you took to ask us a silly question about why we wouldn't pick something trivial over our religion.

What has interested me in Mormonism and places like this board,are the people. People who;

- have demonstrated zeal, passion and knowledge about their beliefs

- are committed to the LDS teachings and the Church

- are questioning the LDS Church

- people wanting to understand the LDS teachings

- sincerly disagree with teachings and why.

When people are generally passionate about anything it causes me to want to know and understand more.

I am no longer active, but I guess it is still a comfort zone of sorts. It's something I know, and even though I disagree with some of it, I still find it interesting.

I don't post much (my participation ebbs and flows), but I've been a member of this board since 2006 (when I was still active) and I just keep coming back. A lot of the conversations are interesting and/or fun.

A few reasons.

I keep up with some friends I have on the forum.

I like religious discussion with others and sharing my own views.

Once in a blue moon, I feel led to say something that I think helps someone.

Once in a while I hear something that helps me also.

On rare occassion I use the forum as a "stress ball" off sorts, when I get frustrated with some of my family that is LDS.

John 10:30-38

30I and my Father are one.

31Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

32Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

33The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

34Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

35If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

36Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

37If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

38But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

Jesus specifically said He and the Father are one. the greek word one in this context is translated to mean in nature and essence, perfections, and particularly in power.

so i guess my question is i dont really understand how the greek word "hen" which is one when Jesus says "I and the Father are one" can be interpreted differently than what is plainly said?

not trying to start arguement merly a discussion.

John 17:11-26

11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the aworld, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be bone, as we are.

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and anone of them is blost, but the son of cperdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my ajoy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the aworld, but that thou shouldest bkeep them from the cevil.

16 They are not of the aworld, even as I am not of the world.

17 aSanctify them through thy btruth: thy word is ctruth.

18 As thou hast asent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I asanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither apray I for these alone, but for them also which shall bbelieve on me through their word;

21 That they all may be aone; as thou, bFather, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be cone in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be aone, even as we are bone:

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made aperfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast bloved them, as thou hast loved me.

24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world hath not aknown thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

26 And I have adeclared unto them thy bname, and will declare it: that the clove wherewith thou hast dloved me may be in them, and I in them.
