MorningStar Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 To Nickleus' credit, Doctors' uniforms are used for evil purposes every day. Just last month they manipulated me into buying an outrageously expensive toothbrush!Don't even get me started on the evils of doctors. They do some pretty horrible and violating things. Now I know why. I don't know where I would be without Nickleus.
MorningStar Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Last time I went to the temple, I had some urges to be a better wife, mom, friend, daughter, sister, etc. I know, it's pretty disturbing. Such mind control.
CV75 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 does the church have programs to try and keep members "faithful to the church"?does the church have a program to recruit new members?does the church want to expand its influence and increase its membership statistics?has the church recently tried to influence political affairs?does the corporation of the church own businesses to generate profit? This reminds me of the religious observations of Ricky and Cal at the dinner table in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
MorningStar Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Nickleus, where are you? I have to go to Costco. Please say something interesting while I'm gone. I'll be thinking of you when I look at their toilet paper wrapped so uniformly. It reminds me of evil. I might have to buy Charmin instead of the Kirkland brand, but it is still uniformly white - also quite disturbing.

It is manipulative toilet paper industries that create the demand for their services. They are determined to make us conform to butt-wiping in order to execute their evil plans of world domination.

Is it still OK to buy dishwasher detergent? I was also considering rotisserie chicken, but I think those hens all kind of looked the same, so I kind of feel like I need someone wiser than me to make my list for me. Could you maybe help me?

Mark Beesley Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Seems to me Christ made some very pointed statements about conforming to righteous principles, and being willing to give one's life for them. So, what exactly is the complaint of the OP?

MorningStar Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Oh, and look at this puppetmaster! It's horrible. He waves his arms and these people just sing the same thing at once at his command. Nauseating.
WalkerW Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 2. Guilt: This assumes that those teaching that certain things are wrong don't really think they are wrong and are only doing it to manipulate. I highly doubt GAs preach against pornography just to manipulate people into feeling guilty.Look! The LDS Church's evil influence has infected scholars, researchers, and philosophers of all sorts! Oh, the humanity!
Deborah Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 i guess you don't find it frightening that the church has the *potential* to ask members to give up their lives for the building up of its organization? What do you mean "potential." Throughout history God has asked of man the sacrifice of all, even his life if necessary, to do what is right. Come to think of it the military asks it's soldiers to do the same. And the Founding Fathers of the USA indeed risked all for what they believed. these men's whims and let them dictate to you how you may dress, how to use your free time, how to use your money, etc... These "whims" are from men who have received a calling and inspiration from God. Have you ever seen how members dress when not at church? When you see the men playing basketball in their t-shirts and long shorts you hardly recognize them and you realize why they like to wear suits. Free time....hmmm. They only thing the church asks me to do is attend church, prepare a lesson and go to the temple as often as possible. Funny thing is these are things I enjoy doing. I've known many people who are "members" of the church who don't do any of these things. I guess the brainwashing isn't too effective. Money?? I pay tithes and offerings but I've never had a gun held to my head. The rest of my money goes wherever I choose it to go (or am otherwise obligated to send it, totally unrelated to church). do the general authorities clean the COB like they ask the members to clean the churches, for free? Actually yes. There is the famous story about Joseph Smith helping Emma with household chores and getting chided for it as not fitting for a prophet. And there is the story told years ago about someone seeing Pres. Hinckley in the restroom picking up towels others had dropped and wiping off the counters. Seriously, this is a very wide stretch to try to put the church down.
TAO Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 all of them are relevant:"obedience to authority""conformity""i thought it was especially interesting, the part from the stanford prison experiment about "put on a uniform and act the part" : sunday dress, missionary uniforms, temple clothes/garments, etc...""why most evil comes from hierarchy" (potential dangers of hierarchy)nickelus, erm... most of us here are somewhat free thinkers when it comes to obscure aspects of the gospel. We don't bend to authority, nor are we very conforming. We generally think about it upon our own before coming up with our conclusion. We don't try and bind ourselves to other people's opinions before learning the truth for ourselves first. Also, having experienced my ward, I can say that some of the best good comes from hierarchy .And as many have pointed out, conforming to the Lord's will is a very good thing, indeed it is! So yah... please can you try and stop trying to link the LDS church to things like this... it makes want to sigh, and TAO sighing isn't a good sign usually. Thanks.Best Wishes,TAO
TAO Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I have no idea. But having an interest in economics, I think it is quite efficient. I don't mind doing it a couple times out of the year.Doing service is a pleasure, that it is.
sweetpotatoh Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Nickleus,I choose to serve and contribute my time because it makes me happy. I have lived a religious and non-religious life, and for me, being religious and obeying the commandments out of love for my Savior, even tho I do a poor job most of the time, is a source of happiness and joy. Your view, as stated, could be applied to any form of authority from schools to law enforcement. I find your view to be selfish and lacking any understanding of what it is really like to give yourself willingly. When we serve in the church it becomes less about us and more about doing the will of our Heavenly Father and his Son. The great thing about the Gospel is that you can choose to serve or not. A persons level of commitment is completely up to them. We don't have a gun to our head to force us into anything. As our love and understanding grows we choose to serve at the level we are comfortable with. I feel sorry for you.Edited to fix spelling/
volgadon Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 nice choice of words =) You'll have to show that the Mountain Meadows Massacre was the result of a "hierarchical system and pressure to conform (be obedient)", rather than of other factors.
volgadon Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Oh, and look at this puppetmaster! It's horrible. He waves his arms and these people just sing the same thing at once at his command. Nauseating. My response was a toss up between Mettallica and this.

Because of the evils of uniform toilet paper sizes, sticks and stones are only used in breaking bones.

Kenngo1969 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Maybe it's time for me to resurrect my old sig line: "Read your scriptures, strap on a bomb; it's all the same to us!"
Kenngo1969 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 You will be assimilated! Resistance is futile!
Kenngo1969 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Don't even get me started on the evils of doctors. They do some pretty horrible and violating things. Now I know why. I don't know where I would be without Nickleus. If he's soooo concerned for your welfare, Morningstar, how come he didn't tell you about the doctors sooner? Hmmmm???
Kenngo1969 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 i guess you don't find it frightening that the church has the *potential* to ask members to give up their lives for the building up of its organization? ...If there ain't nothin' worth dyin' for, there ain't nothin' worth livin' for, neither! That's what I say!
Kenngo1969 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 ... as a member [of the Church of Jesus Christ] you subject yourselves to these men's whims ...1. I don't know that there's anything particularly "whimsical" about the Brethren's counsel. I think it's always carefully and well thought-out.2. The only thing I have left to give to God that He didn't give me first is my will. In return, He gives me everything else. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
Calm Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Choirs (we know the evils that choirs do)Seriously, this doesn't make you shiver just a little bit? Obviously they are just one step away from Stepford Wife Syndrome!http://www.ldschurch.../2008/40474.jpg
