Plaudits for Pahoran

I don't intend to comment further, but I want to publicly commend Pahoran. I have been a fan from Day One. I made one post over at Catholic Answers in agreement with his reasoning on Source and Scope. Old Stuff...from ZLMB Days. I have been granting that for 10 years now. You can define yourselves. I don't need the Journal of Discourses to keep from being LDS!

Anyway, I couldn't possibly participate meaningfully where posts were appearing every few minutes. I have had fun doing it that way very rarely. My style doesn't seem to fit those faster paced threads. I didn't read anywhere near all of them. Maybe I missed what got him suspended. I checked out the last few of Pahoran's posts before his suspension and he seemed like a perfectly patient gentleman and was restrained while on the opponent's home field. I guess the LDS Church must be true after all...Hahaha. You know I jest.

I have seen political programming where there has been hot debate without personal malice. The McLoughlin Group and a show hosted by Pat Buchanan, and Buckley's old show where he would argue with his opposite but without a hint of animosity, at least on camera. I really used to admire some of those guys...those I agree with and those I don't too. They knew better than to hate their opponent, at least not in public. It is really easy to be tempted to alienate, despise, ridicule, or belittle your rival. It is much easier on the internet because you are not in person. Amiability is never a hindrance to hot debate. Hostility is more than a hindrance. Hostility ends debate.

So anyway...I also found a poem about dimples that I thought was cute and philosophical for any random lover of dimpled smiling babies with a consideration of what the dimples are and what they are not....just because I like it. I hope you like it too.

Careful. It's extremely politically incorrect -- and will be absolutely fatal to your reputation in certain circles -- to say anything nice about Pahoran.

I have been giving him kudos since his first post there. And I was glad to see him there. He fought like a true lds. Respectful and honest..against a bunch of mormon haters who were far from kind at times. But I also knew his days were numbered. They can not tolerate a lds apologist coming over scoring so many points against the mormon haters. His suspension was only a matter of time.

However, he could be back with more posts. However, my first suspension over there was for one year but I protested such a sentence and I was brought back and continued to post for a couple more years before the same moderator banned me for being uncharitable against the catholic church, (not true) and for my OP over here about why I like this board.

Pahoran may be back to CAF in no time or it may take a year. But he did a wonderful job and I give him a hand....

What has been lost in the previous discussions is this: Pahoran went to CAF to defend the lds church against attacks. He did not go to CAF to attack the catholic church. And that makes all the difference. After reading one CAF poster here, he came here to attack the lds church and not defend his own faith, the catholic faith. There has not been anyone attacking the catholic faith, mocking it and laughing at it. There is no need for any catholic poster to come to this forum to defend his or her church against mindless attacks.

And that says much about this forum and the lds who post here and also for the moderators who would not allow such attacks against the catholic faith.

What I have seen are mormons with good attentions attempting to defend the lds faith on CAF, the faith that they love. But I have seen no lds mindlessly attacking the catholic faith or otherwise on CAF or here. Why? because that would be insulting to the catholics on CAF and everywhere else and would give a terrible portrait of mormons and the lds church. And it is not christian to do so. And it is not in this boards dna to do so.

I haven't seen pahoran attack the catholic church on CAF. But I have seen him defend the lds faith against mindless attacks. And that makes all the difference. No one wants to see their faith trashed and mocked. Please show me where I was hateful and rude in defending the lds faith. And pahoran did experience a lot of attacks about the lds church that he needed to defend. But this is not about you. If you wish to defend catholism here then by all means do so. If you see mormons starting threads attacking the catholic church in this forum please feel free to defend the catholic faith. But so far, I haven't seen any 'lets hate and mock' the catholic church here at this forum. And that makes all the difference for a christian mindset.

If a poster attacks the lds church here well...they may rile the audience. And I would expect it likewise at CAF if mormons would start attacking the catholic church on CAF.

Over there no interaction takes place between moderators and board members on the open forums, so you are not going to find out why a person was banned or suspended by looking at their recent posts. All communication between mods and posters take place by PM, and mods always give a reason for their decision, and a copy of the offending post is included in the PM.

There have been some moderator changes on that particular board recently, the previous one having been a bit heavy-handed with deleting posts and issuing warnings. If Pahoran thinks he has been unfairly dealt with by a moderator, there is an appeal system whereby he can appeal to the board administration. That is done by a separate email, not by PM on the forum. He can obtain their email address by contacting one of the mods, including the one who issued the suspension; and in my experience they generally tend to be fair. So that is what I would advise Pahoran to do.

Although, I once started a thread about what we like about other faiths. Several Catholics, including me, posted the things we liked about the LDS Church. Funny, not a single LDS could find it within them to post.

I also had a long post about my mission experience and how much I enjoyed it and why.

But, to mention those would not fit into your agenda, would they?

I quit. It grew old very fast, and it was unbelievably disappointing to receive from Catholics the sort of treatment I would expect from triumphalist fundamentalist Protestants at CARM or on the wretched Walter Martin board (if it still exists).

I don't even look in there any more.

This is true and this is why I told the moderator to cut him some slack. He is over on CAF boasting about how he has us all on the run. Also, I am the lead catholic basher on MADb according to atticus on CAF.

But still the logic is missing. No lds here ever start threads bashing the catholic faith. No catholic need come here to defend their faith against insults and mocking. The only reason why mormons post on CAF noncatholic religion section is to defend the faith they love from the insults.

What is unfortunate, without the mormon haters on caf, a discussion between the two faiths can be wonderful. But it seems to me that catholic answers agrees with most of sirthomasmore aka atticus says. And here is the problem.

not true. I have, on occasion, posted on other of the boards...like apologetics, or others. But, I have more interest in the non-religion section. It is more fun for me because I have more experience at LDS than on other sections of the board, or on other baords. I do not despise the LDS Church. I have stated my position many times. I am unsure why you need to keep lying about how I feel....as if you knew.
