JAHS Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 Try not to get whiplash reading these two stories: ‘Moved beyond words’: University of Cincinnati officials grateful for Latter-day Saint food donation to Bearcat students in need Cincinnati fans engaged in offensive chants directed toward BYU during football game against Cougars Of course there will be apologies and fines but it will not change their behavior. 3

It won't change as long as it's culturally acceptable to do. 1
JVW Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 If people ever start being nice to us I'm going to leave the church and join the Jehovah's Witnesses. The church can't be true if the world likes it and I don't want to be part of an apostate church. 3

Imagine if the announcers had taken a moment to tell the cincinnati fans that the church had just donated almost 30,000 tons of food to the students to help with food scarcity during the chant. 1

It might silence a few, but not all. A persons brain is not fully developed until after 25. They don't fully understand the consequences of what they do or say. Skills needed to understand and manage emotions and impulses begin to mature between 13-20 and then later on complex functions like decision-making, problem-solving, and abstract thinking increase. 2

It probably wouldn't silence many, but it would be replayed by news stations and recounted by articles and podcasters for a while to come, and that school would utterly shame itself. 1
JAHS Posted November 24, 2025 Author Posted November 24, 2025 And here comes the expected empty apologies: Cincinnati and Arizona apologize for religiously derogatory language by fans toward BYU 2

Devobah Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 It's never going to change. That's just not going to happen. I've already said it. We're the religion it's "okay" to make fun of and mock. The AD also just released a statement, and if you look on Instagram it's just full of people justifying it or saying it's not bad. "Grow thicker skin, cultist" was one of the things that I saw on that post. Sometimes turning the other cheek sucks, especially when you know the person hitting you wouldn't think twice about hitting you again.

I posted the below in response to another thread, but I can't resist posting it again here. I love it: Quote I have often thought that Nephi’s being bound with cords and beaten by rods must have been more tolerable to him than listening to Laman and Lemuel’s constant murmuring. Surely he must have said at least once, “Hit me one more time. I can still hear you.” Yes, life has its problems, and yes, there are negative things to face, but please accept one of Elder Holland’s maxims for living—no misfortune is so bad that whining about it won’t make it worse. blackstrap Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 Perhaps BYU fans could start the chant " Bless your heart " 👿 3

There is probably not one that isn’t depending on who you are hanging out with, including the absence of religion of atheists and agnostics; any kind of spiritual faith or anything that makes one different will be mocked by someone. I have heard people claim you can’t mock the Muslim faith anymore….as they mock it. Edited December 3, 2025 by Calm
