  1. My husband had the same attitude. Family first over callings. Now that our kids are grown and gone, he is very committed and devoted to his calling in the young men’s. He’s made a huge difference and a lot of their lives. Many of them if not, most of them are autistic and it is a very challenging class, but he has made a tremendous difference in their lives. It’s been good for me to be exposed to something other than what I was raised with, where church took the priority over family in every way.
  2. How far back in history with much revelation in between you allow yourself to go to require yourself and others to follow the dictates of leadership, which is often taken out of context of cultural realities? Do you stop at 1970? Because there is PLENTY of directives over miriads of topics since creation of earth that havecsince been overruled by current leadership. where is your faith in present leadership?
  3. I was going to ask how many times lawyers convince their clients to take their soon to be ex-spouse to the cleaners and to fight for custody even when it does damage to children and further damage to families beyond just divorce. But I decided to be more grown-up than that so I won’t start the controversy 😎
  4. Looks like I misunderstood something you said. Also, though, I didn’t assume something happened to you personally. Nevertheless, I erased my post.
  5. Look it sounds like you have really been deeply affected by something negative and what I do know is when we know more about someone we become more compassionate and we are less abrasive. Rain just reminded me of this. I am not one who gets negative feelings for those who leave the church, nor do I try to convince people to “come back” - but I have been known to hang with folks and genuinely befriend because I trust we will both benefit. if your ward experiences you like I do, I can understand their distancing, only because you come across as though you prefer (I) stay far away and your distain is abrasive. That said, you suggesting that something physically abusive occurred and hurt pokes at my compassion and I’m going to say this: in this moment I can understand not wanting to be a part of something at all but still feel abandoned. I’m sorry.
  6. Honestly? I can’t begin to imagine.
  7. It’s probably not that deep. Probably just a secretary doing his duty. He probably didn’t think twice about trying to get any money out of you (or once for that matter). He probably contacted 300 other people as well and then went home and had a sandwich. I mean, it’s an easy problem to solve. “ hey we were contacted for tithing settlement and we would prefer to be on a no contact list. We will not be coming in for tithing settlement.” Unless you do want to be able to be contacted, so you can test whether you are cared about and who wants your money.
  8. The current General Handbook, section 38.6.4, “Birth Control,” says: “The decision about how many children to have and when to have them is extremely personal and private. It should be left between the couple and the Lord. Church members should not judge one another in this matter.” the last sentence is important to note. Seems to me that it has been explicitly stated that your judgement of others on this topic is the actual sin?
  9. We we have to be able to buy them if we are to wear them.
  10. Ok . Well good luck to you
  11. Don’t know don’t care , totally honestly.
  12. Asolutely no- i do not accept this as being non judgemental at all. Your observations are most certainly judgy. Your tone is very clear. I would invite you to be a little more self reflective.
  13. I wish. That is specifically against directives. But what are we supposed to do?
  14. Sounds like you’re particularly judgmental of what’s going on around you. My suggestion is drop that burden.
  15. Still can’t get garments unless I want 3XL. Husband finally was able to order his regular shirts - came yesterday but the sleeves hang extra low beyond regular tshirt length!!! What in the world! Frankly I’m tired of this.

  17. For the record, I do think general authority should be paid. As should seminary teachers. :)
  18. Curious- how you would advise: A client in therapy who has never dressed trans in public shows up one day in session dressed trans. Dress, heels, wig, but has facial hair. Asks which restroom to use. You trust this client to be safe for others but cannot predict how safe the client will be in either situation. What do you recommend? I’m dealing with that this week.
  19. Not a lie. The word lie suggests hiding. Context matters. That said, let’s be honest, splitting hairs to differentiate between a living wage and payment for services at the rate of 100k? I mean, arent most of us working and collecting basically enough for a living wage, and many just under 100? who cares what we label it. GAs get money. It’s their money to accept or reject. We are talking church policy here.
  20. To be clear, in my opinion, a trans woman is not a woman a trans woman is a trans woman. Additionally, I don’t know that the case has anything to do with the establishment or anyone referring to trans women as “women” . The case is as far as I know is purely an issue around whether or not penises are allowed in this private bathhouse offered to women.
  21. I dislike some things about church so I don’t judge folks who leave. I do judge folks who leave who are nasty and judgy of members. It’s a judgement fest really. 😅
  22. I’ll make the conversation complicated- there’s a case in WA where a Japanese bathhouse was sued for not allowing a trans woman in. The rule had become you have to have a vagina to participate in the naked activities. (Surgically or biologically no matter). The bathhouse lost the suit and now it has gone to federal court. it is important to me to be considerate of trans people and to treat them like human beings and to be Christlike and all the things. But I do not want a penis exposed to me ever under any circumstance unless I married it or it’s under the age of 3 and there’s dressing involved. https://komonews.com/news/local/women-only-spa-takes-fight-over-transgender-access-to-supreme-court-olympus-spa-lynnwood-tacoma-pierce-county-transgender-woman-identity-korean-body-scrubs
  23. I think this deserves a thoughtful response
  24. I think it’s good to create environments that foster sharing new ideas and opposing positions. I’m often engaged in these conversations with my husband who is right, while I’m more left than center. We seem to be able to say often enough, things like “that makes sense” and “that’s fair” and eliminate the need to assert opinions in a way that belittles the other. We’ve learned and grown from these conversations.
