This is especially concerning. Obviously the ward is very disorganized at the moment, but my guess is most Saints would have the impulse to call to let the bishop or RS or someone else in the loop know they are okay…plus if ward members are unavailable, there is always the Stake. We have had it drilled into us since childhood we are a family and we are to be concerned with each other and that often translates in my experience into not letting others worry about us.

I have done a little when they are persistent and widespread because I want to understand how rational people can be convinced by irrational ideas, such as a flat earth given we have numerous satellite pictures from many different sources and other solid evidence (cherry picking evidence mostly by those who don’t understand the science and by a few who do, but err).

The current type of expression, yes, that was absent or low incidence because of lack of accessibility just as certain social identities that exist today were also absent, but likely tendencies that might lead to such expression could have been present…such as what attracts a person to high risk sports or adventure. Since personality types and tendencies were barely beginning to be studied in depth, we don’t know if the underlying personality structures that get expressed today existed in the same amount in the general population back then.

There are studies out there on this, not just as victims. I have read them. I think it wise to study violence in all social groups. I think it very unwise to assume violence is higher for a group based on a very small percentage of that group without comparing such against other groups. For example, do you have the stats for known violent American transgender individuals to compare to white American males (chosen because this is the most common group studied in psych in my experience plus they are a significant group in the American population, so useful for comparisons…or you can just use general population for an average if you prefer). As far as chosen identities (I use this for adopted and openly expressed social identities in contrast to biological nature), some social identities are indeed more likely to be violent. Suggesting an identity is violent without credible evidence (and even several anecdotes are not sufficient to be labeled credible, imo, when dealing with a population of millions) unless it’s associated with violent rhetoric seems inappropriate to me (the KKK has been associated as a group with violent rhetoric and actual violence, there is no parallel transgender group using such rhetoric even if some individuals have done so).

In LDS doctrine God is God both because of his nature and his expressed agency, his chosen behaviours to be our God.

The apostles are all prophets though. I do agree the mantle of President of the Church with all that entails both temporally and spiritually changes a person. I remember a talk from one president talking how they felt the transformation pretty quickly, though I can’t remember who and if it was mentioned shortly after he became president. I am very much looking forward to hearing from Pres. Oaks so soon after he receives it. I find the process very interesting. I doubt it happens enough that there are any set in stone rules. That kind of stuff….seems like they would adjust on a case by case basis. Even with another reading a prepared talk for someone who isn’t up to speaking in person.

It does wonderful things for me to remember this coming joy for us all (even if there are some less than joyful moments for us in the process of refinement), so thank you.

People are creating conspiracies primarily because of the politics around it. Either they want more drama, more reason to be outraged or they don’t want the kid to be the shooter. Or they are drumming up traffic to their stuff to make money, get famous…pretty selfish reasons to mess with people, imo. It is not respectful to Kirk, imo. It is not a good thing to encourage by publicizing it, imo. If Tyler Robinson actually denies shooting Charlie Kirk and he and his roommate both say the texts between them are fake, then is the time to start looking for another shooter imo. And why wouldn’t either or both of them have spoken up before now? Even if Robinson was crazy enough to confess when innocent, his partner would unlikely be backing him. And the text info gives significant detail. And everyone around Robinson, even his parents, are apparently accepting him as a shooter now even if shocked when first confronted by it.

Clumping everyone who labels certain groups racists into one group is not more helpful than lumping FLDS with LDS. The Left is hardly monolithic in ideology or behaviour even if terminology at times is shared. The Left treating the Right as monolithic is no more accurate, though I am more aware of variation on the right then the left (because I tend to be more interested in the positions of the Left than the Right so I pay more attention to them looking to see if there are reasonable solutions presented).

I would say it’s quite likely there is, but not everyone feels that way. I think enough do it’s a good default assumption. There is also intense love in the more abstract sense in that someone might love their children because they are their children, more property or a continuation of oneself than people to the parent. There may be no desire to engage with the children as individuals, but a willingness to sacrifice everything for them to become what the parent wants/needs them to be (thinking of parents who work nonstop to put their kid in the best schools, etc so the kid can get a advantageous job but humiliates or disowns them if the kid quits school because of not liking the pressure or the work and wants to do something the parent sees as valueless).

No, but a simple acknowledgment of what a person has said in a way that shows one understands the point that was made while disconnecting shows the reason for the disconnect is not being dismissive or lack of understanding.

Have you read the texts with his partner, Longview, that were in the charges? They did not sound like the partner was even close to a feverish pitch, more expressing concern than inciting. No ‘wow! You struck a blow for LGBT rights!’ No reassurance he had done the right thing. Shock and disbelief instead. No idea he was going to do it. Robinson is apologetic to them even. Throw the book at Tyler, but at this point we shouldn’t be assuming the partner was at fault in any way any more than the spouses and children of the MMM killers were inciting their husbands and fathers to go out and kill innocents just because they were Mormon and it was Mormons who committed the killings. And what is wrong with not wanting to engage with reporters? It is not just an inconvenience. It is dangerous to put themselves out there. They have a right to their privacy, they don’t owe the public their story. Would you think it odd if Charlie Kirk’s widow, like many loved ones of victims and killers, had asked that her family’s privacy be respected and not give any statement to the press? She and Charlie made a big effort to protect their kids’ privacy in the past. I think it likely she will continue to do so. If my husband or son (my daughter won’t touch guns) went berserk and killed someone intentionally, I wouldn’t be out in public saying anything either just because people were curious about what I could say or about me personally or were demanding I justify how I could live with a monster and not know it. This young partner is going to be a target of hate and possibly violence for a long time now because of the actions of Robinson. Doing nothing that makes them more recognizable or draws more attention is very, very wise, imo. Nothing in there about it being okay to defame them though…. I don’t disagree with this if speaking of assaulting someone only for the reason of political ideology. I also don’t think it appropriate to defame someone as advocating for violence without evidence of them of them doing so as you have done with the partner. Have you considered how some might take that as justification to retaliate against the partner for Robinson’s behaviour?

Is their violence any more associated with their identity as transgender than others who have been violent whose identities are Christian, Antitheists, Republican, Democrats, etc? If the same, do you see it as reasonable for there to a legitimate concern that some members of those various communities may be dangerous both to themselves and others? If you see their violence as somehow significantly different in relation to their chosen identity, please explain why.
