Tracking Religious Activity with Cell Phone Data

I feel like this came up in one of the threads but I don't remember where or see it (didn't look hard).

Actual paper, published April 2024 (using 2019 data I think): https://www.nber.org/papers/w32334

Youtube channel discussing it: https://youtu.be/o2PCOE3SVdY

Lots of fun things, for example, among explicit denominations, the LDS are the group that bring their cell phone the most to church.
What do you think was/is interesting?

I kept thinking of how I might be tracked by commercial data mining bots and government surveillance with how religious goers are currently on a watchlist.

Huh?

Glenn Beck stuff. George W. Bush signed HSPD-6 on September 16, 2003, a directive for terrorism screening and watchlisting, and facilitate information sharing, so the FBI would spend the next twenty years building a “watchlisting enterprise,” first was a lot of innocent Muslims but since 2015 terrorism has shifted more to include right-wing extremist terrorism, and the criteria of such potential terrorists includes those things like being "actively religious". So, of course religious right is making a fuss, assuming they are only casting such a wide net is to watch/spy on Trump supporters by a rogue FBI, blah, blah. I wondered how an intelligence agency even knows who is religiously active... Oh, cell phones.

I want to see documentation…

Before I even begin to buy into that claim.  Not saying I want you to get it.

Whelp, before the thread is locked, I'll just fuel the conspiracy fire by noting that Facebook once thought our church's link to an article on religious liberty violated it's community guidelines, and made it so people couldn't share the link.   (Here's the FB screen grab I personally took, after personally experiencing the event firsthand):

I suspect that was due to some bored disaffected members of the church reporting the link to intentionally make that happen. I doubt Facebook’s algorithim screens for mentions of religion or religious liberty.
