I did not screenshot the interesting comments, but will do it if anyone really wants them. Several people offering other thoughtful challenges to his ideas.

Who is Russell Stevenson, if you don't mind my asking.

He is a historian. Wrote a book on the Priesthood ban and Black Saints, For the Cause of Righteousness, my go to book for documents on the topic.

If I have mentioned Elijah Able, chances are I cited Russell.

He is involved in some good projects, but my mind is blank at the moment as I have been half asleep for about 48 hours when not fully asleep.   If it doesn’t come back to me, I will do a little googling and get the info there.

I think he has the alias of mormonhistoryguy, but I may be mixing him up with someone else. Thankfully lots of LDS interested in history these days and posting stuff online even if it makes it harder to remember all of them.  :)

Yes, brain worked at least that well.

Thank you very much Calm! I didn't even understand the meaning of heretic, sadly. But his review made sense! And I hated that the missionary was by himself, that isn't true to life. Sadly they missed the boat on that one. But hey, come to find out the church is now allowing older single men to become missionaries.

From my own point of view. Movies such has The Heretic, and also others such as the Exorcist, tend to be populist, and playing to the crowd. The end product of movies such as these can be a negative view on faith, of any doctrine. Rather than showing a productive side of the specific faith, a negative view can sometimes be taken. I would rather watch a movie, where faith is shown in a good positive light.
