Popular Post Duncan Posted December 31, 2020 Popular Post Posted December 31, 2020 This might be kind of long! So, my dad is or was German, he's passed away now. He joined the Church in 1962 here in Canada, met my Mum and she joined in 1967 in which year they got married. My Mum said she didn't do genealogy right away but it took awhile. So, in the late 1960's my Dad wrote his father for genealogical information and he responded with scant details. So, that was all that has been done for my Dad's line since then. One of his families my dad said was "Trittenpriess". My Mum said she has been looking for information about my Dad's family, given what little information she had since i'm guessing 1970? around there sometime. She has come up with nothing, absolute zero. I have said on here numerous times my Dad's family is like a black hole, these people just fell in and we can't find them. I can't even stress enough the fact that we couldn't find anybody. I know Katherine the Great looked on ancestry to try to find people and got bupkus. I've just assumed that these records were destroyed in the various wars that Germany had. So, with nothing going on for German genealogy and coming up empty every time my Mum focused on her side which is English, Scottish and Irish. So, every temple trip we've been on since forever we've always done that side of the family. Well, last March during lockdown I made a breakthrough on my Dad's side. I knew those letters he wrote his dad in the 1960's still existed so I asked to see them and clear as day I found out why my Mum never had any success with his side. The name Trittenpriess, my Dad pronounced it like that but it wasn't spelled like that😵 it's spelled, Drittenpriess. So, I called my parents and told them and my Mum wasn't mad that she spent like 50 years looking for people that never existed but she did all the talking to my Dad, let's just say..... She knew though it wasn't his fault but, it's just how he pronounced the name. So, since March my older sister and I have have found literally 400 plus names and all those ordinances of my Dad's family and we've even paid for information on line from a German Archives. They said they would send out stuff to us, which may open up even more names and just today I found at least 15? more people to be done and all these ordinances!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I told my sister we're going to be doing temple work every weekend for like 300 years. With the temple here almost complete it was almost like God held in reserve all these people to be done when the temple came. Honestly I 'm trying to give away names we have so many. My younger sister's two boys are now of age to get baptized for the deceased and I told her to that they are going to get hypothermia doing all these baptisms. I am not bragging or showing off but it's just so so weird that now, of all times, all this information came to light and just as the temple here is being completed. It just didn't come 30 years ago when Canada just had two temples that were opened, Cardston and Toronto. 5
Calm Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 I am happy for you. My dad’s surname line disappears like that. And there have been nonmembers working on it too and no one can find info. But perhaps somewhere there is a document just waiting its turn to get indexed and suddenly we will get a connection. I am dubious though as they were Jewish. I should check FamilySearch one of these days just in case. It has been a few years since last time. 1
Kenngo1969 Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Duncan, Cool Story, Bro. -Ken P.S.: I couldn't resist saying that. That was the moniker of someone who frequented another corner of cyberspace I inhabited a few years ago. Seriously, that is neat. Congratulations. 1
