I figured that was the case.

But I’ve been viewing conference via local over-the-air broadcast since many, many years before there was such a thing as an internet, and, under the circumstances, perhaps you can see why I haven’t made a habit over the years of singing along on the congregational hymns.

When we watched that way we sang then too.

OK.

I still think it’s an optional practice, perfectly fine either way — like putting on your Sunday best to view the conference proceedings in the privacy of your home. It’s all good whether you do it or not do it. Some things are like that.

Salt Lake County was threatening to do that. The state had to tell the county to stand down.

Ok I will say it.

Socialist Facism. Stalinism.

Saul Alinsky, from my SDS days (Students for a "Democratic" Society)

You set a precedent, then it becomes a question of definitions.  If you can shut down Society due to the flu what else can you do?

"Well surely this is like the Coronavirus..."

In 1969-70 we shut down all the Universities, and stopped them from issuing thousands of academic degrees and delaying the progression of thousands on career paths, because a few national guardsmen in Ohio got scared and shot into a crowd, killing four.

Yes, a tragedy.

But what about the thousands of innocents nationally who paid the price for something they had nothing to do with? (Yes I know that's bad grammar)

Yes. In times like this, as much as at any other time, we must be vigilant about safeguarding our civil liberties and First Amendment freedoms.

There is food for thought in what the president said yesterday about seeing to it that the cure doesn’t become more harmful than the problem.

Do you sing at home while watching conference? I never have.

When they used to put up the lyrics on screen, yes, I always did.  I don't have a song book at home, so don't do that any more.  Unless I can recall the words.  How about sustaining the General Authorities:  I'll bet you do that at home.

To tell the truth, it has been only recently that I started watching conference at home again. For decades prior to that, I was at work covering the proceedings for the Church News. I might have done it in the office if I was certain I was among fellow believers. But I was reluctant to make a show of it if there were non-believers present — a pearls-before-swine kind of thing.

But now that you mention it, I think we do raise our hands as a family for the sustainings. Hard to remember now. It only happens once a year, as you know.

Some ominous and "interesting" news combined with even more "interesting" denials.  This involves moving tanks from a navy base in Ventura County, just west of LA County, through LA County as far as Counties east of LA termed the "Inland Empire"

My wife and I watch everything with closed captioning, if available, so we can always sing whenever we want to.  I don't really need the captioning but I have become accustomed to it and it even helps to enhance my experience to both see and hear the words.
