Don't remember if the chili had meat in it or not. It was a harsh time and that cinnamon roll was sometimes the highlight of my week, which is why I remember it. Mom almost always packed roast beef sandwiches, so no meatless Fridays for me. (We were staying with Grandma while in Provo, she was not a cook so no packed lunches). Never ate Cafeteria at school outside of Grandma days, Mom was too concerned with healthy eating and costs. I am truly impressed that you can remember what you ate in grade school. I can't remember what I ate 3 days ago!

I can't remember what I ate 3 days ago! The toasted cheese sandwich came with tomato soup which I poured into my milk carton so they would think I ate it. The reason I liked the meal is that it came with a big piece of chocolate cake. 😋 2

The reason I liked the meal is that it came with a big piece of chocolate cake. 😋 My favorite food from my elementary school cafeteria were the peanut butter cookies, which seemed huge when I was that age. About 6" at least. The best I have ever eaten, which my wife has also learned how to make. We're about the same age and she remembers them. The chocolate cakes were pretty good too but my wife makes better by using some coffee . Hey, we don't drink the coffee! We just eat it. And I liked the fish sticks and corn dogs, too. And the vegetable medleys. And the ice cream sandwiches and Dixie cups. And strawberry jello. I didn't have cinnamon rolls in school that I can remember but my wife makes those really good too. Much better than I have had from Cinnabon. Several kinds, too. My' favorite is with a buttery cream cheese frosting and lots of glazed pecans.

The cinnamon roll was an unusual circumstance ( it was something about school I actually looked forward to besides getting home and going to the library; we didn't get enrolled until October and were required to go to a school no one else in the neighbourhood did because the other was full...it was when I developed my terminal shyness, from the time I got on the bus to the time I got 'home' I was fearful and no one I could share that with; little comforts swell in such circumstances). The roast beef sandwiches...we are talking most days from 2 grade to 12th, so repetition plays a big part there. Edited February 20, 2020 by Calm
