The only reason I frequent this place is because it is filled reasonably moderate people. I like people who don't get defensive right off.......Yes I am atheist but also consider myself a Utahn, spent most of my life there, I'm still part time resident of PC, I love the people there. I hate to tell you but this place is filled with lots of anti mormons.

Perhaps you could explain why you wrote this in response to what I posted. The question I asked is,"who tempted Satan to go against the will of God?" If he had no one tempting him, then why assume that we need someone to tempt us to go against God? I don't think you really answered that question. And the question I asked is "What's in it for them?" Why are they willing to spend thousands of years working on turning others away from God? Why do they want others to be "miserable like unto themselves". I mean this is a very long time to work so hard on an issue that happened thousands of years ago. Yeah. None of it really makes any logical sense. At least for me. I can't really see an upside for Satan or any of his followers for a full time job lasting thousands of years just to add a few more souls to their numbers. And as I understand Mormon doctrine, because these souls that have been added have bodies, they will be more powerful than those without bodies. So essentially they are recruiting those that will rule over them. Does that make any sense? Love to have someone explain that concept to me. Maybe I have just never felt anyone outside of myself tempting me to do anything wrong. The sins I have committed seemed more to do with my own decisions and not someone manipulating me. I agree that this was not a very well thought out story. Even as a TBM, I never really bought into the whole Satan idea. Does each world have its own Satan? What about other Gods with their worlds and plans of salvation. Do they all have one child that gets their plan rejected and rebels? As a kid I thought that the if Satan really wanted to screw up God's plans, he and his followers should stop tempting people. Then there wouldn't be opposition in all things. 1

I'm sure God foresaw Satans rebellion but allowed it because of Agency.

We are plenty capable of evil without any help. I've never heard anyone excuse their actions by invoking Satan. Unless they were joking. Of course we're capable of doing wrong without help, just as we're capable of doing good without the Holy Spirit inspiring us. But just as we are sometimes receiving direction by the Spirit, I'm pretty sure there's the alternate influence trying to direct us for evil. Of course, if one doesn't believe God influences us for good, how much less would one believe in the opposite influence? Edited July 25, 2018 by Stargazer

Did learning about slavery in America make you denounce America and move to another country? I'm sure she will answer for herself, but let me cut in with this: Many members were apparently raised with an idealized picture of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Many were unaware of his plural wives, the ages of some of them, and "disturbing" circumstances of some others. For some of those members he went from being some kind of "stainless saint" to what seemed like a cheap imitation, and a possible charlatan. Some were so disturbed that they cut ties with the Church, sometimes officially. A few even fell to publicly opposing the Church. Some of all of these have appeared on this board, either looking for help in regaining their testimonies, or trying to convince believing members of their new-found disbelief. It has also seemed that a few came here to test their arguments against the Church as a way to validate their fall from faith. I suggest that in regard to everyone who posts here that you observe the Lord's advice: a soft answer turns away wrath.

Actually, I don't think it's all that full of "anti-Mormons". True, there are some who are former believers, and a few of those are pretty adamant about their unbelief. But only one or two are actively fighting against the Church. To me, at least, those are the only "antis" here. And as long as they are respectful, even they should be welcome. We can learn things from them that we cannot learn from anyone else! If only how to be respectful ourselves. 1
