polygamy sentencing

The Bountiful boys, Blackmore and Oler have been sentenced for their polygamy. House arrest and community service are the results. Could have had up to 5 years in prison. I'll let you folks google for more info.

I think their sentence means that the court wanted to uphold rule of law, but didn't see this as a jailable offense.

Apparently the judge saw no purpose in costing taxpayers for 5 years prison time since it wouldn't be a deterrent and they would continue to practice polygamy once released.

I have no clue about the case. However, if the polygamy was part of their religious beliefs I think anything punitive is too much. Just my opinion.

Brian Hales, iirc, had a fundamentalist polygamy website years ago that listed them.  Got to run, but will see if I can find it tonight if I can't locate it with a quick Google.

Please, someone, explain why a guy can shack up with multiple ladies and have kids with many moms, but will get prosecuted only if he marries them? Please......?

Tax reasons. It's all about money.

??? Who gets the money?

If you're married you can file taxes and get a better tax return from the IRS than if you were single. Not to mention if you have like 30 kids.

I’m not sure I get your point, but the cost of single mothers on welfare has to dwarf the amount of bucks that could be collected in income taxes from such folks if they were married.

Not necessarily in Canada. This is the CRA we’re talking about, not the IRS.

Oh Winston. This is payback for the time you and your sons came into Dairy Queen and ordered 20 chicken baskets five minutes before closing.
