The visit was part of an ongoing series of relationship-building experiences between Latter-day Saints and Jews. A delegation of 11 Jewish leaders from Los Angeles and New York participated and while it was an informative tour, the visit had a deeper meaning. "It's important to really understand what people believe and how it is not a threat to you and how you can work together to better yourself, the community, and the world," Saba Soomekh with the American Jewish Committee said. Side by side with LDS Church leaders the group toured Temple and Welfare Square and got an inside look of the newly renovated Jordan River Temple. Robert Abrams is with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP. He said he saw many of the Jewish Old Testament themes while touring the temple. "It reaffirms the connection between the two people and there is a powerful feeling of peace when you come of the the temple," he said. Nice. Thanks, -Smac 6

As someone who was an Orthodox Jew prior to joining the church, I found that "the church" already has a great understanding of, and appreciation for, Judaism. Some of the members? Not so much. But that's their fault, not the church's. 4

I am happy to hear this...I find it so interesting that you were Jewish..I admire different kinds of religious heritage and I did not know this about you..In my opinion the church is the people ..they may need to understand more..you are surely and inspiring and represent a great spirit that helps those who need this. Thank you for this clarification. I just respect so many other religions and hope that in the endeavers of the church to reach out creates understanding all the way around. I am intriqued...someday..give me your story..online or PM...I love this in so many ways and want to understand your perspectives on prior past problems between Jews/Mormons.

Jim Not much...but there is always something new that can be shared..not doctrine wise...but how people think and why.

Bamberger retains the distinction of being the first non-Mormon, the first Democrat, as well as the first, and to date only, Jewish Governor of Utah. He was also the third Jew ever elected governor of any state, after Washington Bartlett of California and Moses Alexander of Idaho. 5

I did get to meet his mother in Provo a few years back -- she was visiting from Israel. Volgadon is a genius, so who knows what he is up to right now.
