Not literally already president. ;)
Mensch is obnoxious, though.

I was just being obnoxious myself. But it does raise the question. If these rumors were true and the various branches of government already have information proving Trump is compromised, how long would they allow him to act as if he was still The Executive? Regardless of what happens to Trump, this mess has exposed very serious flaws in the system that will hopefully be corrected.

Another weakness is the line of succession. Its frightening that if we ever did have a POTUS that was compromised, even impeachment wouldn't fully eliminate the problem as the next 15 out of the next 17 people in line are his personal picks. The 2 out of 17 that wouldn't be are there only because President Truman saw that flaw and fixed it by putting the Speaker and the President pro tempore of the Senate is the 2nd and 3rd slots to break things up.

We don't have a Constitutional basis for removing a President other than through impeachment or the 25th Amendment . With the Congress seriously divided along political lines, and Republicans in control of both houses. The chances of either one happening any time soon are vanishingly remote. Removing the President, Vice President, and Speaker of the House. Well lets just say pigs will fly before that happens.

Depends on what comes to light in the following weeks and months. There can come a point where not voting to impeach becomes political suicide.

Personally I'm not convinced Ryan will go down. The tape of him telling his GOP cohorts not to say anything about Trump getting money from Putin seems to be the source of that speculation, but I think he could weasel his way out of that.

Yes, the president has too much control over who is directly in the line of succession. But, on the other hand, perhaps that's a balance against a majority using that to ouster a president that they simply don't like.

All we down here in Plebeianville do is wait and see.

I doubt Republicans will act against Trump unless it looks like not doing so will kill them in the midterms or Trump does something so egregious that people demand action. I would have thought more Republicans would have turned on him by now. I worry that may mean the GOP is hitched to Trump in some way (scared scandal with Russia, hiding stuff for Trump) but I am guessing they are just trying to survive as best they can.

Well, Trump is now going overseas so we can expect daily embarrassments as he says dumb things to other world leaders.

Supposedly Evan McMullin was the one who recorded the treason talk from the house GOP leadership. That white horse prophesy is looking more likely every day.

I suspect as this ramps up will rapidly become political suicide not to impeach. But Trump may resign before it gets that far.

He has too much ego for that.

I think he could resign. He would try to spin it as a win for himself in some ridiculous and transparently false way.

I think he'd spin in some ridiculous and transparently false way to stay in.. He is a total Malignant Narcissist.

Yeah, but he has cut and run in the past from failing ventures when they got too costly. I could see him doing the same again.

The man eats $50 steaks cooked well-done with ketchup. There is no low he will not sink to........

Okay, finally Trump did something I can approve of. Very evil but at least it is awesome.

Presumably they are all swearing fealty to Sauron.

I can see him wanting to leave on his own terms rather than "lose" by being impeached. He'll continue to whine about being treated unfairly by the press all the way to (hopefully) prison.

Wow, interesting thread.

And this is what the country got because they didn't elect Romney.  Anyone here who supported Obama in 2012 wish we could have Romney NOW?

speaking of snowflake threads . . . anti-Trump derangement is NOT a pretty thing to see . . .

It is not derangement if it is true. Trump's war on political correctness so far involves whining about people saying mean things. Most of them true.

I would take Obama's pet, Bo, over Trump. At least then I would know who held the leash.

Probably more stable too.

With luv and longing for a real prez,

I go further back. We should have gotten Perot in '92 to get over the whole 'businessmen make great presidents' fallacy for a generation or two. We can also blame the last populist president Reagan for being successful and setting a precedent. We should have realized that populist presidents still need to be minimally competent before we elect them.

And now the White House is blocking ethics oversight people from viewing who got ethics waivers. In past administrations waivers were usually made public right away and were not hidden in any case.

Cab we please get through two days without this administration doing something stupid and/or evil?

Obviously not.
