3DOP Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Goodbye video game junkie. You will be remembered. Take care. 1
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 My Ancestry DNA kit arrived in the mail today. I'll give the saliva sample and send it back and in 6 to 8 weeks I should hopefully have my results. And thanks 3DOP. I'm glad people of all different faiths can feel comfortable on this board.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 After a week of not participating in threads on discussion and having an itch to I'm having second thoughts about leaving. I might stick around here after all, but avoid the other 3 message boards I visited for good. 1

Those itches will always be in your life and if you keep scratching at them then you can do some real damage. Rather, consult with the Lord - was the bishop's advice right for you? If it was then you shouldn't come back for an itch. If it was then the Lord will help you find what you should put in it's place. 1

I can tell that your Bishop loves you and it sounds like he gave you great advice, but it still comes down to you thinking for yourself and making choices that you believe will help you in your life. If this board is a positive and the other 3 were a negative, then trying your solution sounds like a smart thing for you to do. However, pay attention to how your participation on here affects you. 2

VideoGameJunkie Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 I had a follow up with my Bishop today to see how I did with my week of showing love. When it came to going to message boards I explained the 4 different message boards I was viewing. This one, mormondiscussions, new order mormon, and exmormon reddit for curiosity. He determined that this board was okay but to completely refrain from the other 3 when I described all 4 boards and what they entail. He said the 3 other boards are Satan's way of planting seeds of doubt in me. 1

I consider myself pretty rock-ribbed and my testimony is extremely strong due to many reasons, and I've heard every argument against the Church that is out there, but even I don't deliberately subject myself to devilish enticements and God-mockery. You are well-advised by your bishop to stay away from such places. 1

Too much for me, in the sense of endless anger and emotional pain. Had to leave that behind. Thinking now, like you, that is it time to leave all religious online discussion behind. For different reasons than you but still the same result. A friend from way back did so by cutting back frequency of posting. Deliberate metering of posts, 1 a day, 1 every other day, 1 a week, etc until the posting was no more. I've always been more of a done and done and gone.

I actually stayed away for a couple of months while my total focus was on wooing her who is now my wife. But now I'm back, and since I'm probably addicted, I shall be in this harness until I die! My wife, however, after reading a few threads here said I can have it all to myself, as she doesn't care for the atmosphere! What?! I said, it's exhilarating! She was not impressed. 1
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 All I can say is the other 3 boards were poison to me yet I kept going back to watch and read for sheer curiosity and I never came away happier than when I went onto the boards. This board however, has good discussions and posters who are strong in the faith and have good knowledge.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 Being on the other 3 boards felt like being in the Great and Spacious building.
