Popular Post MorningStar Posted August 16, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2015 A friend told me this today and it hadn't even occurred to me that John Williams would not be composing the music for the newest Star Wars. Can you imagine? Now picture all of these movies without his awesome music: SupermanHarry PotterIndiana JonesJaws (maybe Jaws would be just slightly creepy rather than terrifying)ETClose EncountersJurassic ParkHome Alone And more! I feel like his music made those movies what they are. When my son was little, the only way we could get him to willingly leave Grandma's house was to tell him we would play Star Wars. Then I realized all his favorite movies had John Williams music. He was about 5 years old when I gave him a Best of John Williams CD for his birthday and he LOVED it. His first CD ever. His doctor still brings up how amazed she was when he sang Star Wars for her and asked recently if he stills sings. Yes, he does! He's pretty awesome. I'm convinced John Williams made my son love music! Well, I had a little something to do with it, but that's what got him passionate about it. I bet even Duncan likes John Williams ...... (hahahaha) When do the new movies come out? I can't wait! 5
MorningStar Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 NEW STAR WARS MUSIC!!!! I'm a little excited. 1
bluebell Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Don't forget Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan! He's just so good. He and James Horner are my favorites. 2
MorningStar Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 Oh yeah! James Horner is awesome too. I'm trying to pinpoint what exactly is a dead giveaway when I hear John Williams music. So fascinating to me. I need to find a nerdy musicians forum or something. 1
Duncan Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 yes, I like John Williams-doesn't he post on here?
MorningStar Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 I heard John Williams will be composing some music for Alex Boye.

MorningStar Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 yes, I like John Williams-doesn't he post on here? Maybe he'll write something for us? Ever see that Portlandia where they find a guy with the same name to write more Battlestar Galactica episodes?
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Doesn't John Williams post on this board too?
Duncan Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Maybe he'll write something for us? Ever see that Portlandia where they find a guy with the same name to write more Battlestar Galactica episodes? I have never heard of Portlandia! The only American TV I really watch is Law and Order, Night Court, MASH, The Simpsons and Barney Miller
KevinG Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I can't imagine John Williams without Sergei Prokofiev. 1
MorningStar Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 I have never heard of Portlandia! The only American TV I really watch is Law and Order, Night Court, MASH, The Simpsons and Barney MillerI only watch stuff on Netflix. Portlandia is one of the most bizarre shows I have ever seen - a lot of it hilarious and so random.
Rivers Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 John Williams' score made the prequels bearable. 1
MorningStar Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 John Williams' score made the prequels bearable.Don't even get me started on Jar Jar.
erastus Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I agree that It's awesome that John Williams will compose the score to the Force Awakens. It was originally announced 2 years ago, though. 1
MorningStar Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 I agree that It's awesome that John Williams will compose the score to the Force Awakens. It was originally announced 2 years ago, though. I had no idea until my friend mentioned it. He's 83! So amazing.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Don't even get me started on Jar Jar.I don't recognize the prequels as legitimate Star Wars material. They quite frankly suck. They are something else touted as Star Wars.
MorningStar Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 I don't recognize the prequels as legitimate Star Wars material. They quite frankly suck. They are something else touted as Star Wars. The first one was especially bad. The second I found tolerable. Still - they lacked Harrison Ford.
The Nehor Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Don't even get me started on Jar Jar. I don't recognize the prequels as legitimate Star Wars material. They quite frankly suck. They are something else touted as Star Wars. I am convinced now that the correct order for viewing is 4, 5, 2, 3, 6. You get to the end of Empire and Vader is revealed as Luke's father. Then you cut to a flashback. You miss Anakin as the cute kid and start with him as an arrogant jerk in Clone Wars and the fall makes more sense. In Revenge of the Sith you see him fall completely and learn the origin of Yoda. Then you end on the revelation of Leia being Luke's sister and then cut back to Jedi to finish it out. It works and makes a much better series. The Emperor's identity is less obvious without Phantom Menace and you get a vague look at him in Empire and Dooku is less obviously serving a greater evil in Clone Wars until the end when he meets with the Emperor. Phantom Menace is superfluous in every way. And Empire Strikes Back of course keeps this moment: 2
MorningStar Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 I never thought about how awful it would be to have Jar Jar's ghost haunting me. Going to have nightmares.

It shows how Palpatine first came to power and set in motion the events leading to the fall of the republic. Edited August 27, 2015 by Rivers
