Avatar4321 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Reading from this weeks lesson this was interesting:"Birth in the covenant entitles those children to a birthright blessing which guarantees them eternal parentage regardless of what happens to the parents, so long as the children remain worthy of the blessings."I've heard that parents who are faithful have their children bound to them forever no matter what happens but I've never heard this reverse benefit. Has anyone heard this before?

A sealing is more about uniting the entire human family than about the very narrow concept of having a parent sealed to a specific child(ren). The promise is to an individual and depending on enduring to the end will be realized regardless of the actions or choices of specific family members in the sealing. 1

Has anyone heard this before?Yes, I have heard it before, that we will be linked into an eternal chain of generations if any of our ancestors break the link through unrighteousness. Regarding worthy parents having their children bound to them forever, it is also good to remember that even though the Father is our eternal parent and we are also bound to Him forever (and from before the foundation of the world), we need to qualify to actually live with Him. 1

Anyone who remains worthy of blessings will receive all. There's no benefit. Such an idea is silly on the face of it. 1

Has anyone heard this before?Yes I got the idea before I learned that President Benson got it too.The idea is that when parents are sealed to their immediate children they are also being sealed to all of their children's children, and grand children, and great grand children, etc. The bond goes forward through time and all of eternity. And the bond will be honored by God as long as either the parents or children honor it, without loosing the bond.So say for example that parents are sealed to their immediate children and those parents later break the bond by leaving the Church, forfeiting all of their covenant blessings. And then also suppose that the parents of those parents accept and honor the covenant which bonds them to all of their children, including the children of their children. So even though their immediate children left the Church and therefore lost their covenant relationships they would still be bound to their grandchildren, and the grandparents would then take the place of their grandparents' immediate parents. It's kinda confusing but that's how that works.Like for me, so far, my immediate parents have not been sealed to me, and I don't know if they ever will be. My next line up, my immediate grandparents on both sides, have not been bound/sealed to me either, as far as I know, unless they have accepted that bond in the spirit world. And yet at some point in my family tree I do have some parents who have already been sealed to me. I don't know who, yet, but even if I have to go all the way back to Abraham, or Adam and Eve, I do have some parents who will fill the role as parents to me. I kinda doubt that I'll have to go back that far to find some of my parents who will fill the gap as my immediate parents but it is nice to know that I have a long line of backups and that all of them are my parents.

"After a husband and wife have been sealed in a temple, if one of them is excommunicated or has his or her name removed from Church membership records' his or her temple blessings are revoked. However, the sealing blessings of the innocent spouse or children are not affected" (Church Handbook of Instructions) Brigham Young has said:"Let the father and mother, who are members of this Church and kingdom, take a righteous course, and strive with all their might never to do a wrong, but to do good all their lives; if they have one child or one hundred children, if they conduct themselves towards them as they should, binding them to the Lord by their faith and prayers. I care not where those children go, they are bound up to their parents by an everlasting tie, and no power of earth or hell can separate them from their parents in eternity; they will return again to the fountain from whence they sprang."
