Just thought I'd stop by and say hi. So are non-Mormons welcome? I have relatives who are Mormons and have had some good conversations with missionaries in the past. I live in Indiana.

Hi Bluebell. So is this forum just for fun, or can someone ask questions about the LDS faith?

Posted (edited)

There is no debate allowed in this forum so you can ask questions but you won't be able to have a discussion about it (at least not one where debate is included).  If you are just looking for information on beliefs or practices then you can do it here.  If you want to have a theological discussion then the other forum is better.

Usually, almost all religious questions are asked in the dialogue folder.  You can start your own threads there once you reach 25 posts.  This forum is pretty much for anything social-fun discussions, personal threads, uplifting only topics, etc.

Bluebell: Excellent! I hate debate and love asking questions. So tell me about yourself. Have you been a Mormon forever, or did you become one after some time?

Hello SpOckrates...

And welcome... so you're from Indiana... my husband and I had a lovely drive through the southern part of Indiana while on vacation one year.  Lovely rolling countryside... two-lane highway, gentle winding...  I remember that we stopped at an antique store along the highway and I bought a couple of pieces... one a cast iron kettle that I loved and displayed on the fireplace hearth with flowers for years.

What about you?  Will you tell us generally... like aprox age... family?... hobby?  But most important... Are you a dog person or a cat person?

Me, I'm old as Methuselah... widowed... no children... live with a pushy cat named Bob in a cottage-by-the-sea in the wilds of the central Oregon coast...

Avatar: Thanks. I started a discussion titled Profound Words on Faith. I'm unable to post a link, but it is here at the Social forum. (I think maybe some of the features of the forum are disabled for me, because I'm new.)

Garden Girl: I grew up in the northern part of New York state. I became interested in Mormonism when I saw a plaque in a small town near the Finger Lakes that said Joseph Smith preached there. I also have an aunt and cousins who are Mormon. My wife and I moved to Indiana several years ago.

Garden Girl: (I wish the edit feature was not disabled for me. I tend to like to add to or change what I post!) I'm a dog person. I own a Jack Russell, Labradoodle and a mutt.

Ummm...ok...my first question answered. Yes, I am welcome even as a non-LDS,  But I don't understand no debate "in this forum." Where is the other forum?  A different site?

Welcome, Contrary Mary...

This particular forum is the "Social Hall" and is supposed to be for fun and info vs the "General Discussions" forum that you see listed on the main menu page... Just click on that Gen Disc title and it will open up that forum... There various gospel topics are discussed and "debate" is allowable... but respectful discussions... it would be helpful for new people to read the Board Guidelines because the moderators follow those guidelines to keep the Board from becoming too negative and respectful language etc.

Hope you enjoy it here..

Stephanpurdy: You have to have enough posts to be allowed to use the General and In the News forums, here. So I started a discussion in this forum.
