Tacenda Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Every knee shall bow.If we are His church, we have a few billion knees left. We could do much more99% of the world has never even heard of MormonsThat seems too high.
mfbukowski Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 That seems too high.Wellthen you guessIf my math is right 15 million is .0021 % of 7 billion. If I got too many zeros in there, somebody correct me. Remember a billion is a thousand million. 7 followed by Nine zeros. The US population is 4.5 % of the world population. So how many people have gotten enough info to make a good decision on the church? There are more people in metro LA than there are in the worldwide membership of the church.Living in Utah gives one a very odd perspective.

You didn't say "gotten enough info to make a good decision on the church". You said "heard of". I'm guessing most people in India, China and Russia (and maybe Africa?) still haven't heard of the Church, but definitely more than 1% of the world's population have.

It seems impossible that 99% have never heard of a Mormon in their lifetime. Surely it's impossible to know this. How do we know that? But I will just accept your answer, so as not to derail.
rodheadlee Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I guess it depends on how you are defining "filled". When Joseph says that they can't even comprehend it, that though there are just a small handful now it will "fill" the world... I have a hard time believing that "filled" means anything like 0.2% of the population. I'm not sure "filled" simply means "available" in his quote.Have you ever gone to the LDS maps to find your ward and expanded out to the whole world? It's amazing and close to being filled regardless of the membership numbers. 2

TheSkepticChristian Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 (edited) As usual, you miss the point. For those of us who actually care about the church and want it to prosper, there is much to do. Of the 15 million, about 50% are not active. How do I know? Very simple Assume that each congregation has 300 active members (300 is too high for Mexico and South America). So 29,621 * 300 = 8,886,300. Of the LDS that are active, more than half are very judgmental and do not live a Christian life. I think it is pointless to work for bigger numbers with the current growth rate (unless it accelerates a lot), I do not think numbers are a mission of the church. Perhaps the biblical 144,000 is the number of good LDS saints who live a Christian life. Edited May 20, 2015 by TheSkepticChristian
JLHPROF Posted May 19, 2015 Author Posted May 19, 2015 Of the LDS that are active, more than half are very judgmental and do not live a Christian life. I didn't realized this was a quantifiable statistic (or that judging others personal progress against their weaknesses was something God asked us to do). Perhaps you might want to be a little less insulting or at the very least not attempt to provide your opinion as an actual statistic. 3

JLHPROF Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 Pot meet kettle. Somehow I think the irony of his statement might be lost on him... 3
