Apparently, the distinction is based on how you get the money, and what you want to do with it. Cine, are you trying to be obtuse? Tithing monies are specifically given as tithing. If I donate money for fast offerings it is not tithing; it is actually fast offerings. If I donate funds to a perpetual fund it is not tithing; it is a donation. Again, tithing is tithing. I don't know how it pulled it all off, but it does seem odd that it comes out and says things like, "well tithing moneys weren't used..." what do they mean? You mean money donated to the Church weren't used as investments which investments helped the Church get more money and that more money was used instead of the more recent tithing donations? Without tithing given the Church wouldn't have other investments. It just seems a little too sneaky for me. Just say, tithing has funded us and we've grown into quite an org because of it with plenty of other investments that help us fund many things.There is a difference between tithing and investments. The investments create profit which then goes into other investments both financial and social investments. Tithing goes elsewhere and not specifically toward financial investments. There is nothing sneaky about it at all. In fact, the church tells its members that tithing money was not used for such and such specific purposes but the funding came from elsewhere. At times We need to stop seeing a negative everywhere we turn. Sometimes it is best to see the positive. So, investments create profit which is then invested into properties etc. It is such generating. However, lets say that there are 7 million active tithe payers throughout the world and yet, we have a church that is worth quite a lot....could tell us that the investments made have been quite successful without tithing money.

Yeah, he did indicate in that one interview that members should be able to see the church's financial records. But, no, that has not happened.

However, since I don't believe he's quite the evil person many here make him out to be, I do feel a desire to defend him against what I view as somewhat baseless, largely emotional, attacks. One irony I see in this topic in particular is that I've been told over and over that the church cannot disclose its finances because they would get picked apart by critics. Here we have Dehlin who does disclose his finances and who is picking them apart... Church members.
