The Purge Continues With The Excommunication Of Adrian Larsen

I guess I'm dim. What was in his blog??

Here's his own take on the events surrounding the excommunication of he and his wife:

After reading some of the pieces on his blog, Larsen's excommunication is not surprising. His "follow the Saviour only" approach to the Gospel -- as well as that idea's outgrowing corollary that there is no need for presiding priesthood leaders who hold the keys of salvation -- is out of step with what we have always been taught. As far as his wife's excommunication is concerned, it's likely it was verified to the satisfaction of the local leaders that she is in sympathy with her husband and agrees with his "we need the Saviour only" take on the Gospel.

I find it interesting that Church members whose beliefs exactly mirror classical Protestantism so often claim to be the only true Latter-day Saints.

I read the announcement of his excommunication and of his wife's and the one about the boat and the captain does not know what he is doing and the boat is listing to the right, taking on water, and is sinking. It seemed like he could be an interesting fellow to talk to, but he has completely moved beyond any need of the Church of Jesus Christ and the structure of the church the Savior instituted when he was on the earth.

I don't know the man or his wife; have never heard of him or his blog.  I read two entries that he wrote and obviously still don't know the man.  In these types of events I seldom think that one individual's perspective is correct or right.  I have to trust in the local leaders and their actions.  I don't like the idea of excommunicating someone without an in-depth interview.  The fact his wife was X'd without such a process is troublesome; however, again I don't know either individual and have not seen how they operate within a ward or stake.  Process is important; result may have been the same, but it was omitted.  I don't like that.

I don't like the idea of anarchy.  I don't think it is wise to distrust an organization because it is an organization.  There are so few things that we need to do as members to avoid completely any possibility of being excommunicated.  It does not occur in a void; there is always a long process that leads up to an excommunication.  It is never a surprise to the individual being ex'ed regardless of what some of the most recent media sensations have stated.  Stay within the boundaries that have been set and there are no problems.  Play around at the edges and jump back and forth and you could quickly find yourself in hot water.

I'm still lost. I Googled and still can't find this guy's blog. What in the world was in it that got him excommunicated? And if his wife was excommunicated for having a link to his blog on her Facebook, without having been spoken to about it first by Church authorities, that doesn't feel right. Sorry to be so dim, but I'm not getting this at all.

His blog is the one I linked to in the OP. he's only been blogging for a few months. You can click on the links in his right sidebar to view those posts. Basically he expounds on his interpretation of scripture as it applies to LDS theology and doctrine.

I disagree with your summary of his beliefs... Based on what he has written he does actually believe in both the need for priesthood keys and the saving ordinances that come through them.

I tried to lower myself to the mental level of the subject matter in the blog. I made a valiant effort to reach down but I failed if I am still mature. I am sorry. I did my best.

While you may disagree with his conclusions, his blog content can certainly not be described as immature.

It's only "strange" if you assume that Mr Larsen's version is complete, and completely truthful.

But simply reading the link shows that his version of events is not only unrepentant -- actually it's rather arrogantly defiant -- but it's rather self-serving, too.

If his Stake President were to tell the story, would any of us be able to recognise Mr Larsen's version from the SP's description?

I trow not.

Of course, we all know he won't do that. Mr Larsen knows that, too.

In fact, he's counting on it.

Regards,

Pahoran

I think that's an unfair and unwarranted conclusion. While it's possible that the accounts could differ, there is no reason to believe that Brother Larsen is being untruthful and "counting on" his stake president's silence.

Ok, finally read one of his posts, the one about revelation. Come to think of it, he's right. That disturbs me for some reason. Perhaps because I never thought to delve that deeply into the situation, and doing so goes against what I've always thought and believed about our Church leaders.

It also disturbs me that the Church is now calling in spouses of those who have a disciplinary meeting with their leaders. Feels like witch hunting.

I have my doubts that this part is accurate.  Its like your children protesting with "I didn't do anything".

I find it strange that they leave Protestantsm for LDS Church and then want to turn LDS Church into what they left.

It seems to me that most of these 'Protestant Saints' were born in the faith.

Based on what he presented? Yes.

Ah, you must think everyone in prison is innocent as well.

From reading what I did of his blog he appears to be quite guilty of the rebellion that he was accused of.
